He returns to Walford to find Kat in her new home behind the bar of the pub… and in a foul mood over his recent lies. As Alfie adjusts to the news that Kat’s managed to buy The Vic again, thoughts turn to his beloved Nana Moon. But who exactly was Nana Moon? When did she leave EastEnders? Who was Nana Moon on EastEnders? Victoria Alice ‘Nana’ Moon was the grandmother of Alfie and Spencer Moon. When her son Alfred and his wife Cherry were killed in a car crash, Victoria raised grandsons Alfie and Spencer by herself, earning the moniker ‘Nana.’ Nana arrived in Walford along with her grandchildren in 2002, where she settled down and lived out the rest of her days. Nana Moon was an avid supporter of Kat and Alfie’s relationship, believing that they were meant to be together in spite of everything they’d been through and done to each other. Nana Moon’s death left Alfie heartbroken (Credit: BBC/YouTube) How did Nana Moon die? Nana Moon died in 2005, after doctors diagnosed her with an aortic aneurism. An operation was offered but, due to her advanced age, and the unlikelihood of her surviving the operation, she decided to let nature take its course and die. This came to pass on Christmas Day, as she and Alfie shared a tender moment on the sofa. After briefly looking away, Alfie turned around to discover that Nana Moon had passed away, slipping by peacefully. In the years which followed, Alfie has often spoke of and remembered his beloved nan. This included the house fire he started in 2014 – only being caught out when he returned to the blaze to rescue a picture of his Nana. Alfie remembered Nana Moon in EastEnders tonight (Credit: BBC) Who played Nana Moon? Actress Hilda Braid played Nana Moon on EastEnders. This followed an illustrious career on stage and screen. Outside of her work on EastEnders, Hilda racked up a hefty portfolio of TV work, including appearances on Brookside, One Foot in the Grave, Goodnight Sweetheart, The Bill, Midsomer Murders, ChuckleVision, My Family, and Casualty. Hilda died on November 6, 2007, at the age of 78. Doctors had diagnosed with Alzheimer’s shortly after she left the soap.
