6 EastEnders characters who need to give Joel his much-deserved comeuppance

Who's going to sort Joel out?
Joel Harley

Troubled EastEnders teenager Joel Marshall is out of control. This week’s episodes of the soap have seen his already toxic behaviour worsen, verbally lashing out at Vicki, Kat and Stacey in a vile rant at The Vic.

And he’s not going to get better anytime soon, either. With spoilers revealing that his behaviour is set to worsen, Ross and Vicki need to do something about their son before it’s too late. But, as they say, it takes a village.

Here are six EastEnders characters who need to have a word (or worse) with Joel before it’s too late.

Six EastEnders characters who need to give Joel his commeupance

1. Kat Moon

Joel incurred the wrath of Kat Moon this week, describing her as a ‘slag’ as he rejected the Walford parents’ attempt at reprimanding him and Tommy. Everyone was shocked by Tommy’s behaviour, and Kat and Alfie kicked him out of the pub, but some might say Joel got off mildly here.

Would the Kat we’ve watched for the best part of 25 years really stand for such insolence from a gobby little upstart like Joel? Granted, she’s softened a bit over the years, but we fancy Kat is still more than capable of taking jumped-up Joel in hand, should she really want to.

And if Joel carries on leading her Tommy astray, he might very well face the wrath of Kat if he’s not careful.

2. Ross Marshall

If there’s anyone who should be getting Joel under control, it’s his dad. Sadly, as we’ve seen over the last few months, Ross has proved clueless as to how he should tackle the situation.

In the builder’s yard on Monday, he stood by silently while his colleagues made a series of unsavoury comments about women in the street. Not exactly sending out the most consistent messaging there are we, Ross? It’s important for men to call out other men and hapless Ross, for all his good intentions, has so far failed to set a good example.

Furthermore, Ross was also complicit in covering up the video Joel recorded of himself and Avani. Ross needs to take the blinkers off before it’s too late, and get his son the help (and therapy) he really needs.

3. Vicki Fowler

Vicki’s noticed all of the red flags Joel’s been raising, and brought each one up with Ross. Of everyone, Vicki’s the one who’s most clued into the darkness lurking inside Joel.

This makes her just as complicit – if not even more so – by paying off the young woman Joel assaulted on the tube. Joel is currently flying free from consequences (other than the odd telling off from Ross and threats from Vicki), a message he’s very much gotten from his dad and stepmother.

Vicki needs to redeem herself for what she’s done. She also needs something to get her teeth into, having been fairly underutilised since her return to Walford. Finally making Joel see the light would be a good start.

4. Ravi Gulati

Last year, raging Ravi dangled poor teenager Barney Mitchell from a railway bridge after getting the wrong end of the stick about Avani. Joel, by contrast, has gotten off relatively easily – even if his time locked in Ravi’s fridge did seem to prove that Ravi wasn’t to be messed with.

We’re not advocating violence against a child, but if anyone should be dangled off a bridge by their ankles…

5. Tommy Moon

Upon arriving in Walford, Joel represented a chance at friendship for lonely, angry-at-the-world Tommy. Setting aside his creepy AI chum, Tommy made a very real connection with Joel, to the relief of concerned parents Kat and Alfie.

That makes Joel’s continued bad influence all the more saddening then, particularly where we can see how conflicted it leaves Tommy. Joel’s abuse of their friendship continued when he blackmailed Tommy over the tube assault video, while Vicki also threatened the poor lad into silence.

Tommy was appalled to hear Joel describe his mum as a ‘slag’ last night. However, with spoilers revealing that their friendship continues tomorrow (Thursday, August 7), he’s clearly not angry enough to cut all ties with Joel.

Tommy continues to prove that he’s got a good heart – he needs to stand up to Joel and call him out on his slime once and for all.

6. The Six 2.0

As Joel showed his true colours, a popular fan theory suggested that he might find himself at the heart of a future Six-style storyline. And we’re not referring to the Henry VIII musical either.  No, some fans think the local teens might team up to attack Joel.

“Avani, Lily, Tommy, Nugget, Ricky, Amy and Denzel. They’re gonna team up to kill Joel. I can’t see how they can redeem him, and let’s face it…he’s only gonna get worse. So [expletive] it, let’s have another The Six?,” wrote one fan on Reddit.

“unironically think this is a great idea,” wrote one fan.

“Lowkey could watch and be invested in this,” said another.

“i would actually love if they did this,” a third agreed.
