Who was Eve's sister and what happened to her? Tragic twin explained

Norma still blames her daughter
Joel Harley

Norma raked up the painful past in EastEnders tonight (Tuesday, November 4) as talk turned to her other daughter, Eve’s sister. This comes amid Norma’s arrival in Walford, where she’s agreed to provide a reference for Eve and Suki’s adoption attempt.

Things got off to a shaky start yesterday, but Norma ultimately agreed to provide Eve with the reference that they need.

As Norma’s visit to Walford continues, she gets to know Eve’s new family, and quickly shows her distaste at the dodgy Panesars. But it’s when talk turns to Eve’s sister that things get really upsetting.

But who was Eve’s sister in EastEnders – and what happened to her?

Who was Erica Unwin in EastEnders – and how did she die?

Erica Unwin was the twin sister of Eve. Erica died in 1993, aged seventeen. Given that Eve only joined in EastEnders in 2021, this means that the character has never physically appeared on the soap.

Eve carries a photograph of her sister in her wallet. Being a twin, this is actually a picture of actress Heather Peace, who also plays Eve.

But what happened to Erica? And how did Eve end up taking the blame?

Who killed Eve’s sister on EastEnders?

Erica was run over and killed in 1993 while under the influence of alcohol. The driver – a woman named Caroline Johnston – drove off, leaving Erica to die.

She was subsequently caught, and sentenced to three years in prison for what she had done. Eve’s parents, meanwhile, blamed their surviving daughter for what had happened, taking their grief and pain out on her.

Eve’s already rocky relationship with her parents went from bad to worse when she came out as gay, which they disapproved of. After clashing with her father – and Norma too – Eve left her family, becoming estranged from her parents (and briefly turning to crime) over the next couple of decades.

Eve had a shock when Erica’s killer, Caroline – or ‘Caz’ – suddenly resurfaced in 2023, in the hope of making amends for what she’d done. Eve was horrified when Caz admitted that she’d been over the limit when she killed Erica, and ordered her out of her life – after nearly strangling her to death first.
