As Jean continues to spiral, new fan theory suggests that SHE killed Anthony

Jean's losing control

Jean Slater continued to spiral in EastEnders tonight (Monday, January 5), as she became obsessed with finding Anthony’s killer. With Zoe still locked up for the crime, Kat and Jean were both determined to clear her name.

While Kat remained convinced that finding Chrissie is the key to proving Zoe’s innocence, Jean took a different tack… accusing Jasmine of the crime.

And, as the episode progressed, it soon became clear that the hunt for Anthony’s killer is but another symptom of Jean’s troubled mind…

But did Jean kill Anthony?

Kat’s search for Chrissie continued in EastEnders spoilers

As the episode began, the Slaters were in full-on detective mode, with Jean taking the lead in the search for Anthony’s killer. Meanwhile, hoping to find where Chrissie had gone to ground, Kat tracked down Chrissie’s old cellmate, in the hope of bribing her for information.

As Kat headed off for her meeting, Alfie attempted to calm detective Jean’s roll, after she’d grown convinced that Jasmine had killed Anthony. Overhearing Jasmine making a mysterious conversation in the toilets, Jean confronted the newest member of the Slater family.

Jasmine had been trying to reach Oscar, though, and innocent (or so it seems) of Anthony’s murder. Alfie then accompanied Jean to her doctor’s appointment, where she was quizzed over her recent mental health. She remained in a manic mood though, and was determined to unmask Anthony’s killer’s identity.

Afterwards, having learned that Chrissie has fled to Corfu, Kat gave chase. Meanwhile, a frantic Jean arrived at the Truemans’, where she issued Yolande a warning.

Yolande was horrified by Jean’s over-the-top, frantic behaviour. And, as Jean fled in the aftermath of her outburst, broke down once alone.

Jean killed Anthony, fan theory predicts

Jean’s behaviour led some viewers to suspect that the soap might be hiding a further twist up its sleeve. Did Jean kill Anthony?

“I have this strong feeling it was Jean,” wrote one fan on Reddit. “Maybe Jean came up stairs, she saw Zoe on the floor and wacked Anthony. She might not even remember. And if she doesn’t remember, she is obsessing over it because her conscious mind is trying to remember.”

“Wait…you might be onto something here,” commented another user in response.

What else happened in EastEnders tonight?

As Kat and Jean continued in the hunt for Anthony's killer, two very different kinds of searches took place across the Square. For Phil and Julie, it was the hunt for Nigel's nursing home.

Arriving at a facility in the wake of recent events, reality soon hit home for all involved. Can Phil and Julie go through with their plans for Nigel?

Meanwhile, after the events of Christmas and New Year, Max continued in his efforts to step up for Lauren and Oscar.

Also, Ian and Kathy butted heads with Elaine again as she stepped up marketing at Peacock Palace.

Here's everything else that happened in EastEnders tonight.

Max made an effort

Following the events of last week, Max was putting in a concerted effort to make things up with his children. After being rebuffed by Lauren and Oscar, he set into action the next stage of his plan - looking for a job.

What does the future hold for Max?

Reality bites for Julie, Phil and Nigel

Phil and Julie took Nigel to visit a potential care home. As Nigel made himself at home, Phil and Julie sat down for a meeting with the lead nurse - who informed them that they'd have to act quickly to secure his place.

Such quick movement gave Phil second thoughts though, and he reiterated that it was too soon to send Nigel away. Meanwhile, Nigel had begun to grow confused and upset, and was ushered away by Phil and Julie.

What will they decide to do?

Elaine made enemies of Kathy and Ian

Kathy and Ian were shocked to find Elaine handing out leaflets on the Square - bragging about Peacock Palace's fry-up quality compared to that of the café.
