As Zoe's attacked on Halloween, Alfie unearths a shocking twist next week

Zoe gets a fright on Halloween night

Zoe Slater was attacked on Halloween in EastEnders tonight (Thursday, October 30), as she reckoned with her own traumatic past. Still reeling from the day’s events, Zoe attempted to watch the videotape from 1988 with Kat and Tommy.

However, as it re-opened old wounds, Zoe fled, spending the night downstairs in The Vic. She awoke to a power cut, and ominous sounds from within the barrel store.

As she investigated, a mystery figure attacked, pushing her over and locking her in the room.

But is all as it seems? With EastEnders spoilers for next week suggesting another twist in store, it seems that there’s still more than meets the eye.

Here’s everything that happened in EastEnders tonight – and what happens next.

Zoe and Kat looked to the past in EastEnders tonight

In the wake of what had just happened, Zoe was feeling paranoid, and hearing things go bump in the night (well, the evening). Meanwhile, downstairs, Kat turned off the offending videotape, herself unable to take the sight of evil Uncle Harry.

Zoe returned to the barroom, where she found that Alfie was done with her dramatics too. After accusing Kat (again) Zoe tried to convince them that someone had been sneaking around upstairs – only for Anthony to emerge from the toilet.

Accusing Anthony one last time for good measure, Zoe flounced off in typical Zoe fashion. As he left, worried Anthony took the opportunity to remind Kat of his diagnosis. Could she really be suffering the early stages of a psychotic break?

Meanwhile, convinced that the mystery had been solved, Zoe was ready to face her past. And, as she plugged in the VHS, Tommy returned home from trick or treating with the twins.

Kat was horrified to see Tommy settling down to watch the video with Zoe. As he questioned why they were being so weird about the past, Tommy demanded to know what the big secret was regarding Uncle Harry.

And so the family settled in to watch 1988’s Slater home movie. Both were unsettled by the presence of Uncle Harry, forcing Zoe to leave the room. As the footage continued playing, Kat shared the truth with Tommy, revealing how her uncle had been Tommy’s father.

A tender moment between mother and son ensued, as Kat opened up about her past, reassuring her son that he was a good lad at heart – and nothing like monstrous Joel, or evil Uncle Harry.

Jean sneering on EastEnders

Jean gave Lily a scare in EastEnders tonight

Across the street, Jean was trapped alone with Lily and a grizzly Charli. And Charli was wailing for good reason – she had fever and a rash on her chest, and Jean feared she’d contracted meningitis.

As Lily panicked, they fetched Doctor Anthony. Luckily, it had been a false alarm – Lily had a high fever, but no meningitis.

However, Lily was furious at Jean’s overreaction – whipping up everyone into a tizz by shouting about how her infant daughter could die. As Jean apologised for her behaviour, she shared a glimpse into her sad past, and how she’d always been lonely and neglected by her family.

The nice Jean act didn’t last long though, and she soon shared her terrifyingly negative opinion of Zoe. “What goes around comes around,” she snarled, in a menacing trance.

Was Jean responsible for wrecking the picture? And, perhaps, for what happened next?

Zoe got a fright in EastEnders tonight

Still freaked by all that had happened, Zoe opted to sleep downstairs. She was woken by another bump in the night. Assuming that it was Mini Mo (genius!) having gotten lost again, Zoe set off in search of her kitty.

Her terrified screams woke Kat and Alfie. They rushed downstairs to find her locked in the barrel store, where she claimed that someone had pushed her to the ground.

Alfie discovers Zoe’s secret as she’s targeted again next week

As the story continues next week, Alfie insists that Zoe’s imagining it all. She’s alarmed to find that her cat has gone missing, and sets off in search of the kitty.

After being mocked by Vicki during her search for the cat, she manages to reconnect with Anthony. But when she returns home, she discovers that her tormentor has struck again, destroying more pictures.

Kat attempts to support her daughter, even offering to sell up her half of the limo business to Harvey. Meanwhile, Alfie grows suspicious of Zoe’s story after a conversation with Bert and Ernie.

When he confronts Zoe, she admits that she defaced the pictures. Has Zoe faked it all?
