Nicola's world is about to be turned upside down...

Nicola and George met their baby daughter much earlier than expected in today’s EastEnders as Nicola went into labour at just 31 weeks into her pregnancy.

After experiencing pains, she was rushed to the hospital. There her waters broke and she was rushed into theatre for a C-section.

While things were touch-and-go for a while, baby Ivy arrived safely despite being early. She was immediately taken to NICU, but there was heartache for Nicola. She was running a temperature after her surgery, and so wasn’t allowed to meet her daughter.

Nicola was banned from seeing her daughter

George tried to support Nicola by promising to take photos of their daughter in her incubator. But it wasn’t enough, and she broke down at the thought of not being able to hold her newborn.

George went to see Ivy, and although he wasn’t allowed to hold her, he talked to her through the incubator, telling her about all the family she had rooting for her.

The enormity of having gone from opening his new restaurant to sitting with his premature daughter wasn’t lost on George, and he was emotional as he spent time with her.

However, there is more heartache to come next week when Nicola remains in isolation. She gets increasingly frustrated with the fact that she isn’t allowed to see her baby and starts to take her anger over the situation out on George.

The drama continues next week for Nicola in EastEnders

Next week’s EastEnders sees Nicola lashing out at George. She blames him for being distracted by the restaurant opening instead of focusing on her and their baby.

Upset, George continues to visit Ivy in the NICU and Harry and Gina also meet their baby sister.

However, as Ivy fights for her life, things take a heartbreaking turn when George is offered the chance to have skin-to-skin contact with his daughter. Even though he would love to hold Ivy, he knows Nicola wants to be the first, so he reluctantly declines the offer.

Later in the week, Nicola is finally well enough to meet Ivy, and she is thrilled. The sight of Nicola with their daughter makes George realise his true feelings, and he tells Nicola he loves her.

But how will he react when she fails to say it back?

What else happened in EastEnders tonight?

As well as baby Ivy making an early appearance as George opened his new restaurant, Bea upped her vendetta against Billy.

Also, Ian and Elaine finally started to bond, and Penny made a shocking decision about her future.

Bea's vendetta against Billy took a nasty turn

As Honey continued to battle perimenopause, Billy was struggling with Bea's strange behaviour. When she splashed out on a new bed for their spare room, Billy questioned where she got the cash from. But while we know she is spending money on a credit card taken out in Honey's name, Bea managed to make Billy feel bad for asking. Later, Bea overheard Denise talking about the AI Anthony that Patrick was speaking to, and Bea secretly recorded Billy talking and used an app to make a fake version of his voice.

Ian and Elaine shared a secret date

After a fight over some campaign posters left Elaine injured, Ian confessed he might have got a bit overzealous. As the pair admitted they shared the same faults, it seemed they might actually be bonding. However, both as stubborn as each other, neither would apologise. Later, Ian came to see Elaine at the B&B with some fish and chips as a peace offering. Soon, they were sharing a drink and getting along like a house on fire. However, the mood was broken when Linda caught them together, and they pretended to be at loggerheads again.

Penny decided to have the DNA test

Penny was adamant that she wouldn't take the DNA test that Nicola was demanding, telling Nicola that if Harry knew the truth, it would spell the end for him and Gina. However, when Harry later broke down in tears after baby Ivy's dramatic birth, Penny saw a different side to him. She started to realise she didn't have the right to keep him from his child if he was the father, and told Oscar she would take the test after all.
