Ben's return backfired

Ben Mitchell announced plans to divorce husband Callum Highway in EastEnders tonight (Tuesday, October 7), as he learned of his affair with Johnny. Poor Ben’s return to Walford didn’t exactly go as planned, as he learned that he’d been betrayed by his husband and family.

And, as Callum explained himself, Ben decided to end it all.

Ben returned to Walford in EastEnders tonight

As Callum, Stuart and Johnny reeled in shock, Ben explained how he’d managed to swing a ‘temporary’ release from prison. After explaining the whole thing. He’d ratted on a cellmate, scoring himself a transfer to the UK and subsequent day release.

After bidding a bittersweet farewell to Jonno Highway, the boys headed back to Walford to see out the rest of Ben’s temporary license. Back home, he reunited with parents Phil and Kathy, who were shocked to see their son strutting the streets of Walford again.

But, as he shared a drink with his husband, Ben soon realised that something was up. His heart in his mouth, Callum admitted that he’d been seeing someone else.

Ben ended things with Callum in EastEnders tonight

It didn’t take Ben long to work out who Callum’s other man was, and he launched an attack on ‘pound-shop Judge Rinder,’ Johnny.

There was worse to come though, as Ben realised that his family had been in on it too. Briefly managing to defuse the situation, Callum sat Ben down long enough to explain how alone he’d been, and how he’d fallen for Johnny in his absence. And, yes, it’s love.

Taking it like a champ, Ben announced to the pub that he and Callum were getting a divorce. And, just like that, he strode (or was escorted) back to prison. Back in his cell, heartbroken Ben broke down – geographically closer to his family, but now more alone than ever.

Has Max Bowden left EastEnders for good?

As the episode ended, Ben was back behind bars. EastEnders spoilers for tomorrow (Wednesday, October 8) reveal that he’s the name on Kathy and Julie’s lips – as they try to convince Phil to visit him before it’s too late.

But what else does the future hold for Ben?

At present, actor Max Bowden has no plans to rejoin the soap on a permanent basis. He’s currently appearing in the UK tour of his play, Murder By Midnight, which has been keeping him busy of late.

However, the door remains very much open for Ben’s return – once his prison sentence is up, that is.

What else happened in EastEnders tonight?

As an ugly family reunion took place at The Queen Vic, Teddy Mitchell attempted to navigate a tricky situation of his own. With Harry set on confessing to the police, he set into motion a dangerous plan of his own.

But will Teddy's dangerous game backfire?

Elsewhere, Eve shared some shocking news with Eve as they met for a reconciliatory drink. What will Suki make of Eve's adoption proposal?

Meanwhile, Kat and Alfie were beginning to get tired of Zoe.

Here's everything else that happened on EastEnders tonight.

Teddy took action to protect Harry

Horrified to learn what had been going on, Teddy attempted to talk Harry out of going to the police. Pointing out that doing so would only further ruin both his and Kojo's lives, Papa Mitchell put together an alternative plan of his own.

Taking matters into his own hands, Teddy paid a visit to Ravi, demanding that he relieve Kojo from his services. No dice - just as he'd done with Harry yesterday, Ravi gave Teddy his marching orders, in no uncertain terms.

Meanwhile, George had returned to Walford after hearing about Kojo's collapse. He soon set about nagging his brother, demanding to know where he'd been and what he'd been up to with Okie.

Feeling condescended to, he ordered George away. And, at the café, Kojo continued to grow irritated by everyone's nagging.

After sending Harry and Kojo off with Gina, Teddy let himself into the flat. But it wasn't long before he had company, and he was forced to hide in a toilet as Ravi and Okie returned.

Thankfully, theirs was just a flying visit, and once they left, Teddy planted a (not very) hidden camera in the flat.

Eve's feeling broody

Eve took Suki up on the offer of a drink with an umbrella in it, pulling up a pew in The Albert. Eve was in a prickly mood though, and snapped at Suki for both her choice of bar and comments about her recent homophobic attack.

Suki begged Eve to move back in. Something had changed though, and Eve wanted more from their relationship.

In spite of the insane baby plan, Suki had gotten through to her. She'd done a U-turn, and now Eve wanted a baby. Not Avani's though, thankfully - no, she wants to adopt.

How will Suki react?

Zoe's under everyone's feet

She's been back all of five minutes, and already Kat and Alfie were fed up of Zoe's loitering about the place.

Zoe shrugged off their concerns, telling them that she was more focused on finding her son than a silly little thing like... getting a job.
