What happened in EastEnders tonight: Joel targeted Stacey and Howie betrayed his family

Joel found his next victim
Joel Harley

Raging red-pill enthusiast Joel Marshall targeted Stacey Slater in EastEnders tonight (Thursday, August 7), as he learned about her online sex work. He was in the doghouse with a disgusted Ross but, as his dad sought advice from Harvey, found fresh opportunity to harass Stacey when he was gifted a brand new laptop.

Talk about mixed messages, man. But what will Joel do with what he’s learned about Stacey?

Elsewhere, Howie was successful in his renewed effort to blackmail Oscar and Lauren, finding the evidence he needed in a not-very-well-hidden binbag. Oscar wasn’t the only one who was bad at hiding things either. Callum was caught in the act by jay after a spot of flirting with Johnny.

And, in the hospital, poor Patrick struggled with his recovery.

Here’s everything that happened in EastEnders tonight.

Ross sought advice about Joel

Following the events of last night, Ross was still giving Joel the cold shoulder. With the laptop busted and Joel not at work with his dad, Vicki could sense that something was amiss between father and son.

Ross was forced to explain what Joel had done, including the Drake Zagan stuff and his grotesque upskirting videos. Furious, Vicki demanded that Ross talk to his son properly, but it was clear the hapless dad had no idea how to tackle the situation.

Meanwhile, in The Vic, Joel received an icy reception from Kat and Alfie. Kat reluctantly allowed him to continue seeing Tommy, but issued a stern warning first. Tommy, for his part, was awfully forgiving, considering the boy had just called his mum a ‘slag’ last night.

Over at the cafe, Ross received some words of advice from Harvey. Explaining what had gone down with Aaron, Harvey shared his perspective as a father who’d lost his own son down a rabbit hole of hate and anger. Realising that he’d made a mistake with his harsh treatment of Joel, Ross resolved to do better.

Joel targeted Stacey

At The Vic, an exhausted Vicki shared a drink with Stacey. As they grabbed a lemonade from behind the bar, Tommy and Joel listened in, and Joel was disgusted to overhear Stacey badmouthing toxic men and online influencers.

“They wish,” he snarked as Stacey commented that there probably wasn’t a woman in the room who hadn’t been harassed or assaulted in some way. Appalled, Vicki told him that he’d just lost any chance he had of getting a new laptop. Not for at least another month or so.

Upstairs, Tommy warned Joel to back off Stacey, explaining what had happened with Theo and her SecretCam pictures. This was all the ammunition Joel needed. Taking umbrage at the women for being out drunk instead of cooking his dinner like good little housewifes, he took his shot, describing Stacey as a “dirty little prostitute.”

Ross arrived in time to see Joel take a wallop around the chops from Stacey, after describing her daughter as a Sket. Back home, Ross tried to talk some sense into his son using a different tack. Having taken on board Harvey’s advice in the very worst way possible, he was in full supportive father mode.

Never mind the fact he’d just seen Joel square up to Stacey, he gifted Joel a new laptop in the name of building trust and openness. The very first thing Joel did with that shiny new laptop? Find Stacey’s SecretCam account.

Howie got his evidence

With everything going on, Kim nagged Howie about the money for the festival tickets. Meanwhile, at the hospital, Patrick was feeling down following the attack.

In an attempt to cheer him up – and boost his own miserable bank balance – Howie suggested that the old man pick a few horses. Just for funs, like. Worried about Patrick’s mood, Yolande relented on the no-gambling rule, letting him give Howie a few pointers.

A lot of use it did, as his picks failed to come through, leaving Howie more skint than ever. Desperate to raise Denzel’s festival money, he watched with interest as the police searched the Square for evidence of Patrick’s attack.

Also watching the police rifle through nearby bins, Oscar’s thoughts turned to the balaclava he’d dumped… in the bin outside of his own home. Howie looked on as Oscar and Lauren sneakily moved the evidence from the front bin to the back. As they bickered inside about how to dispose of the incriminating clothes, Howie pocketed it all for himself.

Evidence in hand, he made his second blackmail attempt. Lauren and Oscar had no choice but to hand over the stolen money.

Callum’s at it again

Lexi, Jay and Callum shared a phone call with Ben, from prison. Following the call, Lexi was feeling glum, and Callum offered to take her out for the day to cheer her up.

After arranging to meet her in McKlunky’s later (where else) for a cheeky manicure, he surreptitiously pulled out his phone to eyeball a picture of Johnny in his swimming trunks.

And, as he swapped notes on his chicken shop date with Jay afterwards, Callum dropped himself in it by letting Jay see one of his flirty texts to Johnny. Jay was disgusted (and not just because “I can’t wait to see your tan lines” is atrocious flirting), and warned him off unnecessarily winding up Phil.

Will Callum listen to reason?

Having suffered no serious injuries, Patrick got the news that he’s on track to be discharged in the morning. However, clearly very rattled by his experience, he told Yolande and the family that he wasn’t ready to go back home.
