What happened in EastEnders tonight: Out of control Joel provoked Ravi, tried to hit Avani and threatened Vicki

Joel's behaviour left Vicki reeling

Joel Marshall was on the warpath in EastEnders tonight (Thursday, August 14), and it was Ravi, Avani and Vicki who felt his wrath. Still raging about not being consulted over Avani’s abortion, he was determined to confront her over what she’d done.

Dad Ross tried to keep his son in check, but with a work trip on the cards, he was nowhere to be seen when Joel got really bad. After somehow not getting dangled over a bridge by Ravi, Joel confronted Avani, and was about to physically attack her when Vicki intervened.

Back home, he turned on Vicki, threatening her with a ‘good slapping’ if she continued to push him.

Elsewhere, Oscar tried to make it up to Patrick, and Honey made a decision about her future. And, in the wake of yesterday’s drama, Suki tried to talk to Eve.

Here’s everything that happened in EastEnders tonight.

Vicki faced the wrath of Joel in EastEnders tonight

Ahead of a work trip to Eastbourne, Ross was taking his new gentle parenting approach to heart, and he encouraged Vicki to do the same. Still, their pleas that Joel leave Avani alone fell on deaf ears, and he stormed over to Ravi’s flat to have it out.

Instead of Avani, he found her parents. Surprisingly bold in the face of noted bridge-dangler Ravi, Joel attempted to provoke a reaction from the friendly neighbourhood drug dealer. Priya was successful in preventing her ex from attacking a 15-year-old, and the parents shared a tender moment afterwards.

Ahead of his work trip, Ross tried to give his son a pep talk, urging him to be on his best behaviour while he was away. It didn’t take Joel long to go back on his promise to behave, spotting Avani outside on the market.

As he publicly laid into her for ‘murdering’ his baby, Avani snapped back, describing him as an ‘insignificant little boy.’ He was about to strike Avani when Vicki intervened, grabbing his arm before he could deliver the slap he had charged up and ready to go.

Back home, Vicki read Joel the riot act for what she’d just witnessed. She tried to make him see sense, but Joel only dug his feet into the ground. As he launched his most unhinged tirade yet, Vicki was shocked to hear his ridiculous, regressive views on gender relations and household roles.

Informing her that women needed to be ‘re-educated for purpose,’ smug Joel then described his dad as ‘weak,’ before issuing a chilling threat.

“Push me and you’ll soon find out,” he sneered. “A proper slapping would do you a world of good.”

Oscar tried to make amends

Oscar admitted to Lauren that he’d gone back to see Yolande, after she’d told him not to. After helping Yolande carrying a package indoors, Oscar accepted her offer of a cup of tea.

Patrick was alarmed to find a stranger in his home, but encouraged Oscar to stick around for a game of dominoes. Back home that evening, Lauren was fuming to learn that he’d been spending time with Patrick and Yolande.

He explained he needed to make it up to Patrick; not just out of guilt for what he’d done, but also from the fear that he was on a path to end up like his dad, the much-hated Max Branning.

Honey’s new job

Zack was fuming to learn that he’d soon be out of a job due to Ravi’s tax issues. He listened in with interest as Honey told Vinny how she’d be taking over from Mr. Lister following his retirement – meaning that her job was going spare.

However, she was disappointed to learn that his plans had changed, and retirement was no longer on the cards. Later, Billy laid into Lister for getting Honey’s hopes up. He hit her with the follow-up revelation that even if he did retire, she wouldn’t be getting the job anyway, and already had someone else in mind.

Honey quit, then and there in the Minute Mart. Good news for Vinny, who immediately hired her.
