All the biggest 'plot holes' in hostage storyline as Harry's captivity continues

Not everyone's buying it
Joel Harley

Harry Mitchell remained captive at the hands of Okie Okyere in EastEnders this week, as Ravi decided to take a holiday with his family, putting his Number Two in charge. He’d ordered Okie to release Harry before he left, although his minion had other ideas.

Holding onto Harry for a while longer, Okie kept him chained to the radiator while he headed out on a date with Gina. As he wallowed in his misery and desperation, Harry turned to hard drugs to escape his torment.

And, as EastEnders spoilers for next week reveal Harry’s torment is set to continue, it seems as though he’s in for the long-haul.

However, not everyone was impressed by this week’s scenes. Here are four of the biggest ‘plot holes’ from this week’s EastEnders.

All the biggest plot holes in EastEnders’ Harry hostage storyline

1. Who’s working at The Arches?

With Harry locked up, Kojo’s also missing – at a car show in Cardiff, presumably with other members of Okie and Ravi’s gang. But with both members of Phil’s staff locked up, who’s manning the Arches?

“Not to mention phil. both his employees (harry and kojo) are missing ? Who’s running the garage?” asked one fan on X.

“I’m surprised that Phil isn’t looking for Harry and Kojo,” said another.

Phil’s currently visiting daughter Louise in Portugal, but it’s unlikely that he wouldn’t be keeping tabs on the business while he’s away. Why has no-one wondered why the Arches has been left unmanned for all this time?

2. Where’s Nicola?

Also absent: Harry’s mum, Nicola. Nicola helped Harry out of his debt with Ravi, paying off the outstanding balance to assure his freedom. What she didn’t put in the small print though, was anything in regards to poor Kojo or the flat.

Has Nicola just been resting on her laurels, assuming the problem dealt with?

“Do they think that Harry is in Cardiff for the world’s longest car show? Where’s Nicola? Nicola will kick the door down for her son. This storyline really makes no sense,” wrote one fan.

“Obsessed with Nicola being absolutely nowhere whilst her son is being held hostage,” said another.

“Does teddy or barney or nicola or george or kojo or anyone not think where tf is harry ??????” a third remarked.

Like Phil, Nicola is supposedly away from Walford visiting family (in this case, her sister). However, we doubt she wouldn’t at least check in on Harry in her absence – particularly given the events prior to her departure.

Likewise, dad Teddy and brother Barney. How has no-one seen through (or questioned) the Cardiff excuse yet?

3. Harry’s clean shave

Having learned its lesson from Bianca Jackson’s hostage ordeal, the soap has pre-empted criticism with the presence of a bucket in Harry’s room. But has he been using it to shave as well as doing his daily business?

That goatee is still looking remarkably well-trimmed in spite of it all.

“Harry is now locked in a bedroom and has been for a over a week, but he doesn’t look in the slightest bit dishevelled as yet. His clothes even look clean, pressed and ironed,” commented one X user.

4. Harry’s letting it happen

Finally, there’s the fact that submissive Harry seems to be just letting it all happen to him. Big lad Harry (who we’re still sure could take Ravi in a fight) has let Okie chain him up to a radiator – a radiator he could easily pull off the wall if he put his mind (or muscle) to it.

“Harry isn’t even trying to get out of that room,” said one viewer.

“Harry’s a strong lad. Surely he can rip that chain out of whatever it’s attached to?” asked another.

“Sorry but there’s no way that chain could keep Harry locked up,” a third commented.

Said a fourth: “Harry had an extremely loose chain around his thigh that would just easily slide off the leg and foot.”

Sure, Okie’s been backed up by Okie’s heavies, and he’s keeping Harry compliant with drugs, but the Harry Mitchell who joined EastEnders last year would never sit by and let all this happen.
