All the obvious red flags Ross is ignoring as he stands by Joel

Ross has got his blinkers on

Deadbeat dad Ross leapt to Joel’s defence in EastEnders last night (Monday, August 11) when he was accused of leaking Stacey’s cam girl work online. Suspecting Joel of posting her intimate videos and pictures online, she stormed over to confront Joel in the café.

However, Ross defended Joel in the face of Stacey’s accusations. He and Vicki were having none of it, and brushed off all of Stacey’s concerns. This led to a heated dredging of the past, during which the various Slaters and Fowlers’ teenage pregnancies were thrown in each other’s faces.

Ross is convinced of Joel’s innocence, but is he being purposefully blind? Here are all the red flags Ross is straight-up ignoring in defence of his son.

All the red flags EastEnders’ Ross is ignoring as he defends Joel

1. Joel’s grudge against Stacey

In Thursday’s episode, Joel clashed very publicly with Stacey in The Vic. After chewing Stacey out over her SecretCam past and daughter Lily’s teenage pregnancy, smug Joel earned himself a slap around the chops.

Having witnessed what had just gone down, Ross dragged his son back home where he… uh, gave him a new laptop. Fast-forward a few days (or whatever passes for the weekend in the world of Walford), and Stacey had fallen victim to a harassment campaign in which all of her SecretCam videos and secrets had been leaked online.

Clearly this was done in an act of revenge or vendetta against Stacey, although Ross decided to ignore pretty much everything Joel had said and done about Stacey over the last few days.

2. His choice of words

During their Queen Vic showdown, Joel described Stacey as a ‘dirty little prostitute.’ These words were exactly the ones which were used when Stacey’s SecretCam work was shared online.

Stacey put two and two together to realise that Joel had done it, but Ross continued to bury his head in the sand.

3. The SecretCam timing

Somehow, Joel managed to get Stacey’s SecretCam username out of Tommy. Leaving aside the question of how Tommy knew that in the first place, it was more condemning evidence of Joel’s guilt.

He even publicly revealed that he knew Stacey’s username, calling her out as ‘IceSkater95’ in front of everyone. The timing of Joel learning – and weaponising – this piece of knowledge was too much to ignore. But ignore it Ross very much did.

4. Literally everything which happened last week

Joel’s confrontation with Stacey came at the tail-end of an explosive week for Ross and Joel. After seeing him lash out at Stacey, Vicki and Zoe, Ross learned about Joel’s misogynistic influencer idol and the vile videos he was keeping and sharing on his computer.

Presented with irrefutable evidence of Joel’s wrongdoing, disgusted Ross exploded, describing his son as a ‘pervert’ and destroying the computer. He changed his tune after a conversation with Harvey, adopting a new supportive approach out of fear that his son might end up in prison.

As such, Ross appears to have forgotten pretty much everything which went down last week. So convinced was he by Joel’s promise that he didn’t even bother to look at his new laptop in the end.

5. Joel’s history

Joel’s treatment of Stacey and troubling Internet usage weren’t the only things Ross ignored this week. He appeared to have also forgotten about Joel harassing a woman on the tube and recording Avani without her knowledge.

Going back further than that, he also ignored the reason they’re all living in Walford in the first place. Namely, his continued and dedicated harassment of women – especially where computers are involved.

How much longer can Ross bury his head in the sand?
