Former Coronation Street and Emmerdale star Sherrie Hewson has revealed her ambition to join rival soap EastEnders – and she already has a few ideas as to how it would work. This comes as the actress departed her role on Hollyoaks this week, after a stint of 17 months.

75-year-old Sherrie played Martha Blake on the Channel 4 soap opera – the mother of serial killer Jez Blake. Jez struck again earlier this week, killing his own mother in his most dastardly crime yet.

But what’s next for the Loose Women legend? Well she only has one soap left, if she wants to complete the set…

Sherrie Hewson reveals EastEnders ambition

Speaking to Reach PLC (and as reported via The Mirror), Sherrie revealed her ambition to join EastEnders. “I’m not sure who I’d play, but they can write anything, can’t they?” she said.

She continued: “My mate Harriet Thorpe is in that, she plays Elaine [Peacock] who I love, so I’d love to go in as her sister or an evil something or other and be really horrible to her.

“I’d love to do that with Harriet because we’re really good friends, that would be something I’d like to do.”

Who did Sherrie Hewson play on Coronation Street and Emmerdale?

Prior to her stint on Hollyoaks, Sherrie played Unlucky In Love Maureen Holdsworth in Coronation Street from 1993 until 1997, as the wife of Corrie legends Reg Holdsowrth and, later, Fred Elliot.

She subsequently returned to the ITV soap again in 2007, catching then-husband Bill Webster out in his affair with Bill Webster.

She later joined Emmerdale in 2004, as  Lesley Meredith. During this time, she played the mother of bin man Simon Meredith. This meant clashing with Simon’s girlfriend, the always-fiery Nicola Blackstock, with whom she argued and fought frequently.

Sherrie left the soap in 2006, riding off into her happily ever after with a man named Bobby-John Downes.
