EastEnders fans baffled by 'irritating' plot holes in Jonno death

Jonno's death didn't make sense to everyone
Joel Harley

Abusive father Jonno Highway met his death in EastEnders last night (Thursday, September 11), departing this mortal coil after his latest run-in with son Callum. Jonno had returned onto the scene earlier in the week, after being caught in a homophobic attack on Eve Unwin.

Realising that his father was responsible, Callum arrested Jonno, and resumed years of tension between father and son. Johnny Carter, however, was convinced that their relationship could be mended, and approached Jonno under the pretense of giving legal advice.

The next day, Johnny facilitated a meeting between Jonno and Callum, as the pair tried to work things out. However, it wasn’t long before things turned nasty, and Jonno and Callum were soon at each other’s throats again.

And, during the resulting argument, Jonno suffered a heart attack and died.

Frustrated EastEnders fans point out ‘plot holes’ in Jonno death

In the wake of Jonno’s death, Johnny took action. This included keeping Callum away, telling him that the police wouldn’t look kindly at his presence at the scene of the… death.

“This scene after Jonno’s heart attack also irritated me – Why would Johnny tell Callum to stay away from the situation? Almost as if to say Callum has done something bad,” wrote one fan on X.

“There was no reason for Callum not to go in the ambulance with his dad. Jonno died in Callum’s flat, so the police will know they met up. None of this helps Callum at all,” said another.

On Reddit, a third said: “Yesh I’ve got to admit that was really odd. I dont think there was anything suspicious about the situation- its not like Callum had shoved or hit him and that led to the heart attack.”

Ben Mitchell to return as Callum and Jonny affair resumes

With Jonno’s body not yet cold, Johnny and Callum then fell into a passionate embrace. The pair have been keeping a distance since their affair was uncovered by Phil Mitchell last time, who threatened to remove Lexi from Callum’s custody.

Is Callum prepared to risk it all again for Johnny?

EastEnders spoilers for upcoming episodes reveal the return to EastEnders of Ben Mitchell, as Callum buries his dad. Ben returns after being granted day release from his prison in the UK, where he has recently been transferred.

Will he realise what Johnny and Callum have been up to in his absence? And, if so, what does this mean for Callum’s future with Lexi?
