Teddy arrived in Walford in June last year, as the head of a hitherto undiscovered branch of the Mitchells. The secret brother of Billy Mitchell, swaggering family man Teddy came with sons Harry and Barney in tow. And, later, a new Walford matriarch in the formidable Nicola Mitchell. However, there’s no denying that Teddy’s been somewhat sidelined under the purview of new Executive Producer Ben Wadey. He found purpose in Harry’s recent drug storyline – taking the rap when his son accidentally killed drug dealer Okie. With Teddy’s sentencing set to air this week, it seems as though his days on Albert Square are now numbered. Article continues below Read all the latest spoilers “There was big hopes for the Mitchells being revitalised by the new family but things obviously changed for some reason and the material just wasn’t there for Teddy. “Bosses made the decision that the character had run his course and that was that. It seems such a waste.” A spokesperson for the BBC told the tabloid: “We can confirm Roland will be leaving EastEnders this year, and we wish him all the best for the future.” The Sun reports that Roland has already filmed his final scenes, which will air later this month. With many holding out hope that Teddy might escape his prison fate, this confirmation of his exit came as a bitter pill to swallow. “So EastEnders has axed Teddy Mitchell why? What a big mistake he could have been one of the best characters in @bbceastenders if they wrote his storylines better. There was so much potential for him on the square,” wrote one fan on X. “Really hoped Teddy wasn’t actually leaving #EastEnders but just seen they’ve axed Roland Manookian!
