This came as the soap revealed what Zoe has been up to since leaving Walford – a harrowing tale of tragic baby loss and abandonment, self-loathing and, uh, bedding Max Branning. In scenes which aired last night (Thursday, September 4), viewers learned that Zoe had become involved with a shady Private Investigator in an attempt to track down the son she’d given up for adoption. Her mystery tormentor revealed Things between Zoe and Dolan took a turn when he double-crossed her, demanding more cash before attempting to sexually assault Zoe. Zoe hit back, hitting him over the head with a lamp and leaving him for dead. After fleeing the scene, she met up with Max outside, where she told him what had happened. Max – who had loaned her the money after becoming romantically involved – was surprisingly unsympathetic, and the pair got into an argument of their own. After parting ways with Max, Zoe called Stacey, setting up the events of June 2025. After all, her partnership with PI Greg Dolan had been abruptly severed, so it’s not as if she’ll be giving him money anytime soon. “I’m confused. What did Zoe need money for as Max lent her some and then the man she paid she hurt or killed,” wrote one fan on X. “so all this commotion is because zoe killed her assaulter, as she should? so she doesn’t owe no one money, the police aren’t on to her, WHAT ARE THESE STORYLINES?” said another. On the subject of money, others were curious why Zoe left the initial £5000 with Dolan after leaving him unconscious (and maybe dead). “Zoe, why did you leave the Money with the sex pest?” asked one fan. “Why didn’t Zoe grab the money as she ran out?” wondered another. Granted, Zoe was probably a bit panicked by the whole did-I-just-kill-a-man thing, but that doesn’t explain what she needs the money for now. Maybe to plot an escape from vengeful Greg Dolan?
