Nigel Bates Share By Joel Harley Jul 15 2025 By Joel Harley Jul 15 2025 Tonight’s episode of EastEnders (Tuesday, July 15) saw Nigel Bates apparently leaving Walford for Scotland with wife Julie, having been reunited by Jay Brown. This was particularly heartbreaking news for Phil, who feared being left alone once again in his friend’s absence. This was a whirlwind 24 hours for Phil and Nigel. Phil clashed with Julie after running into her again on Albert Square, following her phone call from Jay yesterday. Learning about Nigel’s dementia, she was determined to bring him home to Scotland, making up for lost time. Goodbye Nigel? (Credit: BBC) Nigel and Julie left EastEnders As the episode ended, Julie had gotten her way. Leaving Phil heartbroken, inside she and Nigel packed into the back of a taxi– off to the train station for the 9-hour journey back to Scotland, Darth Vader (the cat) and their hens. Phil brushed off Linda’s pleas that he say goodbye to his friend before it’s too late. He remained inside, alone, as Nigel exited his life as suddenly as he’d re-entered it. While the soap hasn’t revealed how long actor Paul Bradley will remain on the soap, this is likely only a temporary exit for Julie and Nigel. With both Nigel and Julie featuring prominently in next week’s spoilers, it’s likely that they’ll be sticking around for some time yet. Nigel returned to the soap last year, arriving in Walford in the midst of Phil Mitchell’s spiralling mental health crisis. Assuming that actor Paul is on a 24-month contract, one can reasonably expect Nigel’s exit to occur around this Christmas. But what’s happening on EastEnders next week? While they both want what’s best for Nigel, they’re unable to agree on what he needs, and continue to bicker over his well-being. Later, after a conversation with Jay, Phil decides to make more of an effort with Julie. Can they settle their differences for Nigel’s sake?
