EastEnders review: sex, drugs and chicken wings

What did you make of this week's EastEnders?
Joel Harley

Our EastEnders review this week finds the residents of Walford in a randy mood, with three couples either getting together or reconciling their differences. Good news for shippers of Pravi, but not so fun for those of us who are a bit grossed out by George and Nicola.

Not that their relationship is going to last long. With Nicola’s son, Harry, under suspicion from George after Kojo’s drugs nightmare, there’s bound to be tension between George and Mama Mitchell.

Another pairing who weren’t feeling the love is Phil and Julie. They may not be a married couple, but are certainly bickering like one. Move over Lauren and Peter!

Here’s what we thought of this week’s action.

George and Nicola, Gina and Harry, Priya and Ravi all got randy

There must have been something in this week’s water. First, Gina and Harry finally decided to make a go of their relationship after months of ‘will-they-won’t-they’ to-ing and fro-ing.

But with George suspecting Harry of giving Kojo drugs, and Harry’s ties to Okie and Ravi’s operation, is their relationship over before it could even begin? And is it really a good idea for two individuals with a history of drug abuse to be seeing each other?

Elsewhere, George’s earlier attempt to break things off with Nicola proved a failure when he gave into temptation. Swayed by talk of their daddy issues, it wasn’t long before they were tearing each other’s clothes off and they were at it in the office again.

Their reunion was short-lived though. Publicly accusing Harry of giving Kojo drugs, George was soon at odds with Nicola. It’s doubtful she’ll stand for anyone badmouthing her boy (even if it is true), so we doubt her and George will go the distance.

And then there’s Priya and Ravi, who decided to give their relationship another go after also falling into bed together. But with Ravi’s side hustle amping up, their relationship is also on rocky ground.

We’re rooting for them, but will Ravi’s drugs operation drive all three couples apart?

EastEnders review: Ravi’s drugs operation kicked up a notch

Just when we couldn’t hate Okie anymore, he coined the term ‘SlowJo.’ After talking Kojo into letting his mates use the flat, Okie wasted little time in turning the place into their own private base of operations.

Quite understandably, this stressed Kojo out, and Okie made matters worse by giving him an actual chill pill. It all kicked off when George found his brother passed out, and he was determined to prove that Harry was responsible.

Thankfully, Harry managed to defuse the situation before Okie got his way (‘disappearing’ the bigger man), although George is very much still onto Harry. And, talking of Harry, he had a particularly brutal week, between Ravi smashing his hand up, and then George menacing him in the bar.

Heartbreaking scenes, and it’s probably only going to get harder to watch.

EastEnders review: Phil and Julie are still arguing

Phil and Julie have been at it like an old married couple ever since she arrived in Walford. She’s struggled to accept the reality of Nigel’s sad situation, while Phil’s refused to make few allowances for Nigel’s actual wife.

Granted, he had a lot to deal with this week. Julie’s latest return from Scotland brought with her three chickens; rooster David Peckham and the Spice chickens. After a sleepless night thanks to David’s crowing, it’s no wonder Phil was on edge.

Not even the revelation that Nigel had planned to kill himself dulled Julie’s sparkle. And, as the week ended, the pair remained at an impasse. Important conversations are being had (Phil’s heart-to-heart with Julie was this week’s most powerful scene), but the arguing is starting to get repetitive now.

Please, for our sake as well as Nigel’s, sort yourselves out!

Oscar with Patrick and Yolande, playing dominoes

Oscar tried to make amends

In the third main thread of the week, Oscar was feeling guilty about attacking Patrick. Hoping to secretly make amends, he struck up a friendship with the old man, and the pair shared a few games of dominoes.

But with Howie getting nervous that his own secret was about to come out, this resulted in an explosive argument at Patrick’s stag do. It looks as though the whole truth will be revealed sooner rather than later, so we can only hope that Patrick and Oscar’s rather sweet friendship survives.

Jack stuck his nose in

It was a big week for Jack, who had his nose in everyone’s business. Not content with threatening to arrest Kojo, he also put himself in charge of finding out what’s been going on between Howie and Oscar.

But it was through chance that he learned Oscar was behind Patrick’s attack, as Oscar accidentally blurted out the truth due to a misunderstanding.

What will Jack do about this information? Will he shop Oscar to the police like he tried to do with Kojo? Or cover up for his own flesh and blood?
