Suki's right back to her old manipulative self - and we hate it! Avani Nandra-Hart Features Suki Panesar Share By Kerry Barrett Aug 2 2025 By Kerry Barrett Aug 2 2025 Forgive us if we start our EastEnders review of this week with a wail of despair that NO ONE SELLS THEIR BABY! We have been soap fans for a really long time. Sometimes it feels even longer. And we have seen so many of these storylines over the years that we are jaded and a little bit broken by them. But the fact remains. No one sells their baby. No one. It’s not a thing. It does not happen. There are laws about this stuff. Laws that apparently don’t exist in Emmerdale, Weatherfield or, indeed, Walford, where this week Suki decided to buy her own sort-of-great-grandchild. We need a minute to gather our thoughts on this storyline so let’s start elsewhere. Here’s what we thought of the rest of the action in our EastEnders review. Foolish Alfie carries on lying to his wife (Credit: BBC) Alfie’s home And within about 30 seconds he’d managed to take over the pub, telling the photo of Nanna Moon that Kat had bought the pub for him, deciding to sack LEGEND Tracey, and generally being really, really annoying. And the lies about Zoe keep coming. No one cares. No one. Article continues below Read all the latest spoilers OF COURSE Stacey shouldn’t have spent half of Martin’s life insurance on bailing out her cousin she’s barely seen for 20 years. It’s baffling that it was even an option. Alfie’s very good at spending other people’s money, that’s for sure. The sooner Zoe comes back, the better, to be honest. Just to stop Alfie doing Joey Tribbiani’s ‘smell the fart’ look when he’s about to tell another lie. Oscar’s in trouble but WHO could possibly help? (Credit: BBC/Composite: EI) EastEnders review: Oscar’s woes Fat Mike arrived in Walford and everyone yawned because Oscar’s great and him being messed up in – something? – doesn’t add anything. We’re still not completely sure what he did that means he owes Fat Mike £2000, though we have to admit, it’s entirely possible this was all explained and we just zoned out for a minute. But anyway, Oscar’s scratching his head about what to do about all these threats when his Uncle Jack is RIGHT there with an encyclopaedic knowledge of Fat Mike’s crimes and the ability to arrest him. Let’s hope Oscar works it out soon and Mike and his dodgy tache become a distant memory. CRINGE (Credit: BBC) EastEnders review: Nicola’s awesome Over on the other side of the Square, Harry’s still mixed up with Ravi and his drug dealing mate Okie. He’s now using Harry and Kojo’s flat to stash drugs and it’s not great. But there is a small bright spot on the horizon in the shape of Nicola. We love Nicola. LOVE. HER. And we quite liked Okie calling her ‘Mumsie’ this week, knowing he has absolutely no idea what she’s capable of. The idea of her taking on Ravi and his minions – and no doubt coming out on top – makes us rub our hands with glee. Though the least said about her awkward hook-up with George the better, right? Avani and Suki and the “hideous plan” And so to the big story of the week – Avani and Suki. We’ve got a lot of thoughts. A. Lot. So many in fact, that it’s hard to know where to start. But frankly Barney said it best when he denounced Suki’s idea of raising Avani’s child as a “hideous plan”. Eve called it “borderline abusive” but we’d say it’s not even borderline – Suki’s manipulative, sneaky behaviour this week was straight-up abusive. It made uncomfortable viewing. We’re also a bit cross because Suki was a terrible person when she first arrived in Albert Square. Awful. And she’s been rehabilitated so well since then, seeing the error of her ways, making amends, becoming a firm fan fave through her relationship with Eve. But now she’s back to how she was. The whole thing makes no sense. None whatsoever. Not least because Avani and her brother Nugget own the MinuteMart. They’re presumably set for the future, despite Bernie’s theft. But Suki is skint. So how come suddenly she’s offering to buy Avani’s child? At least when Bernie sold her own baby to former prostitute and drug addict Rainie (who, by the way, we love so no judgement here) she needed the cash. This part of Avani’s storyline makes even less sense than the rest of it. There’s also the issue of Joel. He’s not nice, and we get that Avani doesn’t want him to know. But that part of her plan will almost definitely fall apart if she goes through with the pregnancy. In short, there is not one thing we like about this storyline. Not one. We just need it to stop before it ruins Suki, and breaks up Sukeve, for good. Read more: Who’s leaving, joining and returning to EastEnders? Complete list of cast exits, arrivals and returns.
