In last night’s episode, Stacey and Martin finally decided on a name for their baby daughter, who had been born prematurely. But when the couple revealed they were choosing the name Hope, fans took to Twitter to slam EastEnders’ writers for copying Corrie and using clichés. The scenes were instantly reminiscent of when Coronation Street’s Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine) gave birth to a baby girl three months early. With the tiny baby fighting for her life and facing many medical complications, the couple decided to choose the name Hope. Husband Martin had been pressuring her to spend time with their baby girl, who had been born at 32 weeks, and encouraging her to choose a name. And doctors had suggested a naming ceremony or Christening could be a good thing for the family to do. It was after a heart to heart with Max Branning, of all people, that Stacey realised Martin was right and they should name their daughter. The choice of Hope came as no surprise to viewers though, who said that the soap was copying its rival and using a clichéd option. One fan had clearly predicted the name, tweeting: “Female premature baby? Better call her Hope #Eastenders #cliche” And another added: “Stacey and Martin are calling the baby Hope?
