Everything about Queen Vic hostage showdown which made no sense

A dramatic confrontation took place
Joel Harley

An explosive hostage showdown took place in The Queen Vic on EastEnders last night (Thursday, September 18), as Greg Dolan resurfaced, out for revenge. Tracking Zoe down to her mum’s pub, Dolan broke in and held Kat hostage.

As Zoe and Stacey arrived, they were shocked to see Dolan holding Kat at knifepoint – or screwdriverpoint, even. After bundling the night’s takings into a bag, it looked as though the family would emerge unscathed… until Tommy walked in, that is.

As the situation escalated, things turned violent. Meanwhile, having been alerted to the situation by Tommy, Ravi and Jack set aside their differences to help out.

A chaotic series of events – which included the already iconic ‘butter knife’ line. Which isn’t to say it all made sense.

Here’s our run-down of the most bonkers moments from last night’s EastEnders siege.

Zoe’s miracle recovery

As the episode began, Zoe and Stacey had rushed into The Vic to talk to Kat. Yes, rushed.

Zoe had set aside her crutches to dash across Albert Square to talk to her mum, apparently already healed up from her shooting ordeal. And it’s a good job she was fighting fit, the way Greg Dolan was dragging her around the pub.

Not bad, considering she was at death’s door two weeks ago.

Ravi’s gun-holding

Across the Square, a very different kind of confrontation took place. Having learned that Jack planned to confess to the shooting, Ravi set out to intercept his former love rival.

This he did by pulling a gun, shoving it in Jack’s face. The pair were then interrupted by the arrival of Tommy, alerting them to the situation over at The Vic.

As Ravi and Jack attempted to break into the pub, Ravi shrugged off accusations that he’d been about to shoot Jack. “You think I was going to shoot a copper? I was going to hand it over, let you keep it as insurance,” Ravi insisted.

3 vs 1

Upstairs, the three women emptied the safe as Dolan continued to hold them hostage. Yes, the same limping, middle-aged schlub Dolan, who looks as though he couldn’t fight his way out of a paper bag. Somehow, we’re expected to believe that the Square’s three most formidable women wouldn’t make mincemeat of the man.

Kat eventually proved that Slater women aren’t to be messed with, whacking him over the head with a cricket bat.

You’d think he’d have learned his lesson the first time a Slater woman knocked him unconscious.

Jack and Ravi are off the hook

After finally getting inside, Jack took the opportunity to solve all his problems by planting the gun on Dolan. And, as Ravi skulked off, Jack explained what had happened to DS Spencer and the rest of his colleagues.

Taking Jack’s word for it, Spencer apparently didn’t bother to so much as interview Ravi – let alone question what he and Jack had been doing at the scene of the crime together, either.
