Fans of the BBC soap were genuinely surprised to see the character back in scenes shown on Thursday (24 May). Unlike when Kat Slater returned earlier this year with so much fanfare, nobody knew likeable rogue Alfie was due to make a comeback. Alfie’s back! But for how long? When Kat returned to Walford alone earlier this year, she claimed that Alfie had taken their children abroad to run a bar. But there were suspicions almost immediately that she wasn’t telling the whole truth. Alfie and Kat were last on screen together in EastEnders spin-off Redwater, set in a fictional Irish village. It ended with Kat seemingly drowning and Alfie being resuscitated, prompting viewers to speculate if their characters had been killed off.
