EastEnders Executive Producer Ben Wadey has teased what viewers can expect from Christmas 2025 as the soap gears up for its festive special. Ben took over as EastEnders boss earlier this year, marking the start of his tenure with the return of Zoe Slater.

Since then, Ben has also celebrated the return of Max Branning and Anthony Trueman, while re-instating Kat Moon as landlady of The Queen Vic. And he’s only just getting started – with so many coals on the fire, EastEnders is shaping up for an explosive Autumn and Winter.

But what can fans expect for Christmas?

EastEnders Christmas special to pay tribute to soap’s ‘past, present and future,’ hints EastEnders boss

Speaking to RadioTimes.com, Ben said: “This Christmas, we’re looking past, present and future, so we’ve got a lot of stuff that we’re very excited to share with the audience.”

Much of this drama will likely involve the Slater family, who recently celebrated the return of Zoe to the fold. “Of course, Zoe is now back in the square, and Zoe and Kat’s relationship is complicated. There are 20 years there for them to try and recover and get to know each other,” he continued.

“Zoe has a lot of secrets that she’s going to bring into the Square with her, so the Slaters are in for a whole ride this autumn.”

Ben Wadey teases end to Joel’s story

Earlier this month, Ben also teased how toxic teenager Joel Marshall’s story might come to an end. His behaviour has gone from bad to worse since arriving in Walford, as his indoctrination into the redpill lifestyle continued.

This included his targeting Stacey Slater, groping a girl on the tube, and threatening stepmum Vicki Fowler.

“In the next couple of months the Joel story is really going to come to a head,” Ben teased.

Other revelations included the hint of ‘fireworks’ between Max Branning and Cindy Beale. “You’ll want popcorn,” he joked when asked what could happen when the two meet for the first time. “I think there would be fireworks!”
