5 things about Joel’s Stacey vendetta which make no sense

Joel's got it in for Stacey
Joel Harley

This week’s episodes of EastEnders saw Joel Marshall target Stacey Slater after learning about her past as a SecretCam model. Joel was on the warpath after learning that his mum is getting remarried, and lashed out at all the women around him.

After first spitting venom at Kat, Joel focused his ire on Stacey after she dared answer back to him. Casting aspersions on her past as an online sex worker and parent to a teenage mum, Joel earned himself a slap around the face for his trouble.

Back home, he set about tracking down her SecretCam account, putting into motion the events of next week. But did this really add up? Here are five things about this week’s EastEnders which made no sense.

Five things about Joel and his Stacey vendetta which make no sense in EastEnders

1. How did Joel get Stacey’s username?

As he lashed out at Stacey in The Vic, Joel issued a vicious reminder of her past, referring to her by her username, IceSkater95. But how did Joel manage to get Stacey’s username so quickly?

Tommy may have told him when he divulged Stacey’s past, but that makes even less sense! Why would Tommy know Stacey’s SecretCam username in the first place? And how would that have come up in natural conversation with Joel?

2. Why did Tommy tell him in the first place?

Talking of which, what exactly possessed Tommy to tell Joel about Stacey’s background as a SecretCam model? Sure, this was an attempt to get Joel to go easy on Stacey, by explaining her stalker woes ag the hands of creepy Theo, but did he really have to go into the whole SecretCam thing?

Only the night before, Joel had referred to Tommy’s mum as a ‘slag’ (which should have been unforgivable enough), so Tommy knows that his mate has some serious issues when it comes to women. Given everything he’s seen and knows to be true about Joel, Tommy would have been wiser not to have opened that particular can of worms.

3. Where did Ross get money for the laptop?

Leaving aside the mixed messaging a brand new laptop sends out (more on that later), where did Ross find the funds for a brand new laptop at such short notice? The man had to accept money from Sharon to pay off Joel’s sins of the past, while Vicki recently gave Joel’s tube train victim a chunk of cash to buy her silence.

With Vicki hard-up for cash after losing her job with the Panesars, both parents are in a financial bind. So for Joel to buy his son a laptop without even consulting Vicki is a curious decision.

4. Ross’s bad parenting continues

It became crystal clear this week that Ross doesn’t have the tools to deal with Joel’s behaviour. While he’s tried to be firm with Joel, Ross simply doesn’t comprehend the magnitude of his son’s radicalisation – brushing off influencer Drake Zagan’s hateful words as ‘banter,’ and even tacitly agreeing with Joel on some points raised.

Ross’s mixed messaging continued as he gifted his son a brand new laptop in an attempt to not lose Joel entirely. An understandable sentiment, even if it does speak to how little he understands Joel’s mindset – and the very basics of technology.

But to give him the laptop even after he saw Joel square up to Stacey in The Vic? And to do so without setting any boundaries or limits on its use? Has Ross never heard of parental control software?

5. Why didn’t Stacey delete her account?

His dad back on side, Joel settled down with his new laptop, completely unsupervised. The first thing he did (before even setting it up as a new device, apparently)? Find Stacey’s account on SecretCam and get to creeping.

One would have thought that, after the whole Theo affair, Stacey would have deactivated or deleted her account. And, as for Joel, we can hardly imagine Drake Zagan would approve of Joel subscribing to an OnlyFans-type service, even if it is to leak Stacey’s pics and videos everywhere.
