Former EastEnders actress Nicola Duffett has joined Coronation Street as Yasmeen’s new prison friend Lucie.

Nicola, who played Debbie Bates in the BBC soap from 1993 until 1995, will make her first appearance in Corrie next week.

Who is Lucie in Coronation Street?

Currently Yasmeen is in prison waiting to see if she will be found guilty of attempted murder. But Lucie will hand her a contraband phone and urge Yasmeen to call her abusive husband and show him who’s boss.

Yasmeen admits to Lucie that she’s scared but she makes the call. Geoff is shocked to hear from his wife but he promises that when she comes home things will be different and he will seek professional help.

Yasmeen then ends the call unsure of what to believe. Will Lucie help Yasmeen through this difficult time?

Debbie first appeared in EastEnders in 1993 as a friend of Tracy the barmaid, attending Tracy’s hen party.

She soon became a love interest for Nigel Bates, who she went on to marry in 1994.

In 1995, Debbie was killed off in a hit and run leaving Nigel and her daughter Claire devastated.

Although Nigel struggled with custody and legal hurdles, Claire was eventually able to stay with her stepfather. In 1998, Nigel’s new girlfriend Julie got a new job in Scotland and Claire and Nigel both left to live with her.

Claire returned in 2008 for a short period of time but hasn’t returned since.

Family affairs

After her time in EastEnders, Nicola went onto play Cat Matthews from 1998 until the series ended in 2005.

Cat’s husband Dave was played by Coronation Street actor Richard Hawley, who plays Carla’s dad Johnny.

Wednesday 8th July Emmerdale Kim gets an anonymous call. Jamie sees Millie's picture hinting they were in Take A Vow. Jamie confronts Andrea - she doesn't know Andrea is. Andrea appears to be in a hotel. Jamie and Kim trace the number, Jamie goes to get Andrea. He gets distracted by his GPS and hits something at 90mph listening to Billie Eilish. Bob tells Chas his concerns, she tells him to go on a dating app. Cain asks Kyle about Malone. Moira tells Harriet that Malone threatened her and her kids. Moira's van breaks down. Malone comes along. Cain sees her and questions Malone and Moira about sleeping together. Gabby can't get hold of Bernice. Leanna insults Gabby and she begins to feel like a third wheel. Dawn mentions Joe Exotic, haha. Coronation Street Tim tells Geoff off for shouting at Sally, Geoff says Sally has been to visit Yasmeen. Sally tells Tim what Yasmeen told her, but he refuses to believe it. Geoff applies for a prison visit. Faye tells Tim hoe he's a good grandad and Tim always says he was a good dad. Yasmeen overhears prison officers say Geoff tried to book a visit, she tells Alya. Geoff is denied a prison visit and smashes a plate angry. Jenny tries to encourage Simon to do his exams. Nicks tells Leanne he can't have a go at Toyah like she did and Toyah is just as upset about Oliver. Imran tells Leanne she needs help. Nick tells Leanne to stop pushing people away. Leanne goes to see Simon and says she misses him and apologises. She asks him to come home. Michael says to Grace about getting back together. She says she doesn't want to. Nina points out Evelyn and Arthur like each other.

Since Family Affairs ended, Nicola has done stage shows including A Midsummer’s Night Dream.

In 2016 she appeared in the BBC series The Coroner as Amy Penketh and in 2018 she starred in BBC2 drama Collateral.

Last year she appeared in ITV’s thriller drama Deep Water.

Coronation Street next week airs on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7.30pm on ITV.
