Former EastEnders star Pauline McLynn will join rival soap Coronation Street as new Rovers landlady Eva Price’s mother-in-law, Maggie Driscoll. The actress, 63, is best known for playing dotty housekeeper Mrs. Doyle on the Channel 4 sitcom Father Ted.

To EastEnders fans? She played nasty Nick Cotton’s ex-wife, Yvonne. The character appeared during a short but memorable stint between 2014 and 2015, attempting to paint Dot as a murderess following Nick’s death.

Pauline will now swap Walford for Weatherfield as she makes her Corrie debut alongside returning actress Catherine Tyldesley.

Pauline McLynn to join Coronation Street

Pauline’s Coronation Street debut comes as Catherine returns to Weatherfield following an absence of seven years. Catherine plays Eva Price on the soap, returning to town as she takes over as landlady of The Rovers Return.

Eva comes with husband Ben Driscoll in tow, played by actor Aaron McCusker. They’re also joined by his mother, Maggie. This isn’t the first time Pauline and Aaron have starred in a show together, both appearing on Shameless as Libby Croker and Jamie Maguire, respectively.

Of the soap’s new additions, Coronation Street producer Kate Brooks promised: “To have actors of Catherine, Aaron and Pauline’s considerable calibre at the beating heart of this family is absolutely wonderful, and we can’t wait for you to get to know and fall in love with them as much as we have already done.

“Strap yourselves in, it’s going to be an exciting and eventful ride.”

What happened to Yvonne Cotton?

Yvonne Cotton first appeared in Walford in 2014, following the arrival of her son, Charlie Cotton. After making himself at home with grandma Dot, it was revealed that Charlie’s father – and Yvonne’s ex-husband – Nick was alive and well, having successfully faked his own death.

After leaving Walford for Ireland, Yvonne returned, discovering that Charlie was engaged to Ronnie Mitchell, with whom he was expecting a child. She bonded with ex-husband Nick over their shared hatred of Ronnie, and soon rekindled their romance.

Charlie cut both Nick and Yvonne out of his life after he learned that his dad had attempted to kill Roxy Mitchell, and Yvonne had tried to frame Phil for the crime. She returned to Walford after Nick’s death in 2015, claiming that Dot had been responsible for his murder.

Yvonne was ultimately unsuccessful, and left for good soon afterwards.
