WARNING: This piece contains spoilers for today’s episode of EastEnders, which is streaming on BBC iPlayer now, but has not yet aired on BBC One – in which the soap confirms whether Jean Slater is suffering another bipolar episode.

Jean continues to spiral in EastEnders this week, as her turmoil over the recent departures of Stacey and Freddie causes her to reach an all-new low. When a visit from Lily sparks concern in Kat and Alfie they investigate… and find the house in a complete state.

But what’s really wrong with Jean? Has she stopped taking her medication? Is she suffering another bipolar episode?

Suffering Jean sparks bipolar fears in early EastEnders release

As today’s episode begins, Lily struggles to feed baby Charli. With the fridge empty and Jean catatonic on the sofa, she goes over to The Vic, where she asks Kat and Alfie if they have any leftovers.

Growing worried about Lily’s behaviour, they pay Jean a visit – and are shocked to find the house a mess, and Jean unresponsive.

As Kat and Alfie question the pair over Jean’s mental state, Jean admits that she was behind the threat at the Christmas lights switch-on. Rather than reacting with anger, Kat realises that there’s something seriously wrong with Jean.

Anthony shares his diagnosis

After Lily confirms that Jean has been taking her medication, Kat seeks advice from Anthony. He goes to see Jean, and tells Kat that he thinks Jean might be struggling with her bipolar symptoms.

While she’s been taking her medicine, he thinks that recent stresses could be a factor in her mood swings and unpredictable behaviour.

There are more shocks in store when Kat asks Anthony to look into Zoe’s twins, eager as she is to make amends for the stalking ordeal… and Jean’s part in it. Anthony visits the hospital, where he gets a hold of the twins’ file from an old colleague.

He’s shocked to learn that Zoe lied about the babies’ date of birth, meaning that he could be their father. What’s more, doctors managed to resuscitate the baby girl, meaning that she lives too.

Needless to say, Anthony is shocked. What he doesn’t know, however, is that Jasmine Fisher is at the police station… where she admits to being Zoe’s daughter.

Is Jasmine Zoe and Anthony’s daughter?
