Scenes last week saw Stacey leave Walford after the return of ex father-in-law and ex-lover Max Branning, who set the cat among the pigeons by crashing Lauren and Peter’s wedding. He was more interested in Slater women than his children though, and soon engineered a meeting with Stacey. While the pair’s reunion didn’t go so badly at first, she was appalled to catch him mid-clinch with cousin Zoe later. Realising how Zoe had tried to get her out of the way so she could have Max to herself, Stacey decided she’d had enough. Taking brother Sean up on his offer of a place to stay in Brazil, Stacey packed her things (and her kids) and departed. But is Stacey gone for good? And, as she bid everyone farewell, she reassured them that she wouldn’t be gone for long – revealing ‘I’ll be back in a minute.’ Article continues below Read all the latest spoilers Continuing, Lacey said: “Thank you, everyone. I am coming back, I won’t be long.” She finished: “I can’t do speeches but thank you. I love you all very much and it’s a very special place to work.” So there you have it! While there are no plans for Lacey’s return to the soap just yet, in her own words, she ‘won’t be long.’ But what does this mean for her family in the meantime? Jean was trapped on the tube with Priya when Stacey made up her mind to go, and wasn’t able to get back in time to stay goodbye. Instead, she returned with Stacey already gone. Fuming, Jean railed at Zoe, who she deemed responsible for her daughter’s abrupt departure. Amid fears that this might spark another bipolar episode, many couldn’t help but feel bad for poor Jean. “I’m so sad Stacey didn’t get to say goodbye to Jean. Now Jean’s going to spiral,” wrote one fan on X. “It’s pure evil that Jean didn’t get to say goodbye to Stacey,” said another. “Jean and Stacey’s bond on EastEnders has been unforgettable.
