EastEnders star Max Bowden has cleared up a plot hole regarding the fate of Ben Mitchell and his impending ‘day release’ from prison. Fans of the soap had been left confused by upcoming spoilers, which revealed that Ben would be returning to the UK for his late father-in-law’s funeral.

With Ben currently serving time in a prison in the USA for credit card fraud, his return seems unlikely, at best. However, Ben will be back, albeit for a short stint.

When Callum’s father, Jonno Highway, dies, Ben returns to England for the funeral.

Fans slam ‘plot hole’ amid Ben Mitchell return

As news of Ben’s return broke, fans shared their confusion on social media. And many wondered how exactly he’d managed to swing such a thing.

“A day release? From an American prison to the UK or anywhere for that matter? For someone’s funeral who isn’t even blood related? Yeah right. Wouldn’t happen in a month of Sundays,” pointed out one fan on Instagram.

“How can you be on day release if ur banged up in America???” said another.

“Day release from an American prison to attend the funeral of his husbands estranged father in the UK? Does Ben have a time machine?” a third asked.

“Can you leave a country when you’re on day release from prison, and wouldn’t be worth it crossing the Atlantic for one day?” said a fourth.

Wonder no more – actor Max has weighed in.
