With their whole journey hinging on a reference from Norma, the couple are desperate to impress. But as old wounds reopen, Norma’s cruel words make Eve have second thoughts. They’ve already overcome the obstacle of Suki’s chaotic family and had their first meeting with the adoption agency. But now the couple have another problem to deal with. Eve has been told in order to proceed with the process she needs to provide a reference from her mum, Norma. Viewers will recall that Eve and her mum have a troubled relationship. Things fell part after Eve’s mum blames her for her sister’s death, and both she and Eve’s father have exhibited homophobic behaviour towards their daughter. The thought of having to reach out to her mum fills Eve with dread. But with Suki’s support, Eve decides it’s time she faced her fears and see if Norma would be willing to support her dreams. Eve and Suki then ask Norma if she would be happy to provide them with a reference.
