It promises a radical new treatment for blind children. Believing this could help Jimmy, Lauren pays a huge sum of cash – only to realise she’s been duped. Lauren is desperate to help little Jimmy (Credit: BBC) Lauren’s had a tough time in EastEnders spoilers Lauren and Peter welcomed their second child, Jimmy, into the world earlier this year. But shortly after his birth Lauren realised there was something wrong with her son’s eyes, but initially struggled to be taken seriously. A doctor then confirmed Jimmy has optic nerve and chorioretinal coloboma, which means the back of his eyes have not properly formed. As a result, Jimmy’s sight is severely impaired. Since the diagnosis, Lauren and Peter have remained stoic and determined to give their boy the best life possible. Next week, the couple find themselves targeted by a stream of messages from a doctor, offering an experimental treatment for kids who are visually impaired. Lauren is intrigued and wants to investigate further, but Ian dismisses it as a fraudulent con. And for once Ian is right! Lauren is sold by their spiel, but then shocked to discover the initial cost will be £3000. She’s keen to give it a shot, but worries where on earth she’s going to lay her hands on three grand. Later, during the Vic fundraiser something happens with little Jimmy that makes Lauren even more desperate to help her child. She manages to get hold of the cash and gives it to the doctor, telling them she wants to proceed with Jimmy’s treatment. Lauren’s worst fears are realised (Credit: BBC) Lauren realises she’s been scammed in EastEnders spoilers Lauren‘s hope soon turns to blind panic when she realises the treatment plan she’s paid for is actually a scam. And the ‘doctor’ is nothing more than a manipulative thief. This shock storyline coincides with BBC’s Safe Scam Week. It’s aimed to help the public stay safe when it comes to fraud.
