Elaine Peacock and Linda Carter’s reign is now nearing its end, after the pair decided it was time to sell up. Both mother and daughter have had a turbulent few months. Linda is still in recovery from an alcohol addiction, and in her own words “doesn’t want to be surrounded by booze”. And Elaine also wants a fresh start following her shock split from husband George. Hoping to get the very best price, Linda decides to put The Vic up for auction. She informs Kat, who is clearly tempted to put in an offer. Rumours are rife that Kat is set to become the next landlady. But surely she can’t afford it on her own? The cocky businessman tells Kathy and Harvey it’s time to build back the Beale empire. And in order to achieve that goal, he’s going to purchase the pub. Ian is sure his will be the winning bid and takes great pleasure in lording it over Kat and Stacey. But the thought of the Beales taking charge terrifies Jean. She knows that if Ian becomes the owner then she’ll probably get fired from her cleaning job, putting even further strain on the family’s finances. Seeing Jean in such a flap, Kat and Stacey decide to hatch a plan to ensure Ian is given a run for his money.
