Recognise the police officer on Charity's case? Angela Lonsdale has swapped Coronation Street for Emmerdale

Charity Dingle bravely reported her sexual assault in Emmerdale this week and DS Reid, the police officer taking her statement, definitely looked familiar.

For soap fans they will absolutely recognise actress Angela Lonsdale from her time on Coronation Street. Read on and we’ll tell you all about her…

DS Reid is the police officer helping Charity in Emmerdale

On Sunday (June 7) Charity was sexually assaulted by evil Dr Todd. She bravely decided to report it to the police on Monday (June 8) and went through a full examination to provide evidence. She also gave her statement to DS Reid.

Tonight (Wednesday June 1o), the police pull Todd in for questioning.

DS Reid has assured Charity she believes her story and will do all she can to get her the justice she deserves. But Dr Todd is slippery. Will she lie her way out of this?

Who plays DS Reid in Emmerdale?

Soap fans immediately recognised the police officer when she first appeared. And that’s because she’s played by Corrie alumni Angela Lonsdale.

She joined the cast of Coronation Street in 2000 and stayed for three years until 2003.

Angela was Emma Watts (neé Taylor). She was a police officer who saved the day during the Freshco seige. Curly Watts then asked her out and they eventually married on Christmas Eve 2000. Emma than gave birth to their son, Ben, on Boxing Day 2002.

However, their marriage hit trouble when she lied in court to protect a colleague, Mick. Mick had savagely beaten Les Battersby, Emma’s neighbour, and Les ended up going to prison for assaulting Mick.

Emma perjured herself in court to back Mick’s version of events up and Curly was horrified. The couple split up over it.

However, then Emma was offered a promotion to Inspector in Newcastle. Worried about not seeing Ben, Curly decided to reconcile with Emma.

They put their house on the market and left Weatherfield for a fresh start as a family.

In the 2010 DVD spin-off A Knight’s Tale, Curly returned and revealed he and Emma had ended their marriage since they departed the Street.

What else has DS Reid actress Angela Lonsdale been in?

As well as Corrie soap fans may recognise her from playing DI Eva Moore in BBC daytime soap Doctors. She appeared from 2006 to 2008 when she was shot and presumed dead. However, she returned briefly in 2011.

Angela has also had parts in Casualty, Holby City, Vera, The Bill, Scott & Bailey, Our Girl, The Syndicate and This is England ’90.

She also does lots of voiceover work and is currently starring in a week-long production of Gerry and Sewell at the Newcastle Theatre Royal.

How long will the police officer helping Charity be in Emmerdale?

It has not been confirmed how long Angela will be sticking around in the Dales as DS Reid.

Emmerdale has not revealed whether Charity will get justice after her attack, although it is hoped the show will make sure Dr Todd pays for what she has done.

Angela has posted to her Instagram account how “honoured” she is to be appearing in Emmerdale for this storyline, which suggests this may not be the last we will see of her.

Angela Lonsdale and her EastEnders star ex-husband

Actress Angela was born in 1967, making her 58 years old. It is not known whether she is married or single at the moment.

However, in 2005 she married a fellow soap star.

Angela wed EastEnders’ Perry Fenwick, who plays Billy Mitchell. They were together for five years before they confirmed they had separated in 2010.
