Cain and Ruby are thrown into a panic

A conflicted Aaron Dingle made his decision in Emmerdale tonight (Friday, May 30), returning to his wedding as the police hauled chaotic Robert Sugden back to prison – while workers dredged a body up from the lake.

With Aaron’s mind made up and Robert back behind bars following his surprise return, the stage was set for John’s happily ever after… only for a certain body to re-emerge from the local lake.

Assuming that the body is Anthony’s, guilty parties Ruby and Caleb Miligan immediately jumped into panic mode. But what happens next?

John and Aaron got married in Emmerdale tonight

This came as Aaron made up his mind, and decided to marry John. Returning to the ceremony, he and John completed their vows, finally becoming husband and husband.

Meanwhile, at the nearby bus stop, PC Swirling swung by to pick up Robert. Rob had missed his probation hearing, and was under arrest for breaking the terms of his release.

Swirling had, of course, been tipped off by a mystery caller. We’d say Robert got off lightly, given what we know John is capable of

A body was dredged up as John and Aaron celebrated their wedding

Following a boozy reception at the Woolpack, the newlyweds headed outside where Mack (freed by Lewis a few hours ago) unveiled their honeymoon surprise – John’s van, decorated with lipstick-stained loo roll.

The pair rode off into the proverbial sunset just as Kyle rolled up on his bike with a bombshell. He’d been up at the lake when the police pulled a body from the water.

As Chas ushered Kyle inside, Cain, Ruby and Caleb immediately began catastrophising, assuming that it was Anthony’s body. But who’s in the lake? And what will a terrified Ruby do next?

Panic for Ruby and Cain as police discover a body in Emmerdale spoilers next week

As news of the body in the lake begins to spread, Ruby is in a panic. Thinking it’s her dad, she decides to confess to the police. Caleb attempts to talk her into fleeing the country instead. However, she sneaks off while he’s making plans for an exodus to Ireland.

At the station, Ruby reveals all about her dad’s abusive tendencies. Horrified to learn what Ruby has done, Caleb sends his solicitor to sort things out, armed with a plan. However, the situation takes a turn when the police identify the missing body as that of Nate Robinson…

After the police give Tracy the horrifying news, Cain and Moira are blindsided to learn that Nate is dead. And with Cain having dealt Nate a terrible beating on the day of his disappearance, it’s not long before fingers start pointing his way.

As both Tracy and Chas voice their concerns, the police haul Cain down the station for questioning. Cain’s rage rises to boiling point as he struggles to answer the police’s questions. And, back home, Tracy grows increasingly suspicious of his behaviour.

Can Cain clear his name?

What happened in Emmerdale tonight (Friday, May 30)

As the fallout from Robert's return dominated much of the episode, Ross and Moira put on a united front in order to keep Lewis quiet about his mum's death. Meanwhile, Billy threatened Joe - and was furious to learn that he and Dawn were officially back together. Here's everything else that happened in Emmerdale tonight.

Dawn had enough of Joe and Billy's squabbling

At the depot, Billy looked over his handiwork as he watched Joe flailing on the ground. Having learned nothing, Joe continued to taunt Billy, describing him as a thug. Doubling down, Billy informed Joe that if he continued meddling, then he'd kill him. Back at Home Farm, Joe wasted no time in tattling on Billy. Dawn was disgusted to hear how he'd been pushed out of his wheelchair, but knew he'd done something to wind Billy up. Joe admitted that he'd tried to set Billy up with a job away from the village, loaded with ulterior motives. Later, he apologised to Dawn for overstepping the mark with his interfering. She was feeling guilty too, though, as she'd never checked whether he was actually okay. Having made up, she warned him against messing with Billy and told him that she didn't need him to play dad. He was keen to get their relationship back on track - and they were looking loved-up on the sofa as Billy arrived with Lucas's trainers. He was disgusted to see Joe and Dawn looking so cosy. Losing her temper, she informed him that she and Joe were fully back together, sending him on his way with a flea in his ear.

Ross chose Moira over Lewis

Lewis was shocked as Ross blackmailed him into silence over their mum's murder. Lewis was appalled and attempted to appeal to Moira's better nature, but she insisted that her debt had already been paid - and the police didn't believe her anyway, last time she tried to confess. Disgusted, Lewis stormed out, rejecting Ross's attempts to re-establish a brotherly bond. Not to be put off, Ross followed Lewis back into the village, reminding him that kidnapping (poor Mack, trapped in the weed farm) and growing weed are also illegal. Maybe not as illegal as murder, but still. Having none of it, Lewis stormed on his way. Is this it for the brothers Barton?
