Another Sunday episode confirmed for Emmerdale as schedule chaos continues

There is a lot of disruption coming up

Sunday episodes are becoming quite the thing for Emmerdale at the moment as more changes are on the way that mean another extra weekend outing.

Both Emmerdale and Coronation Street are being moved for sport on multiple occasions over the next few weeks. It means catch-up episodes will be aired on Sunday nights to make up for it.

The ITV soaps are often shifted to make way for football and rugby coverage. Soap fans are usually not happy about it – especially as there haven’t been catch-up episodes available recently.

But that’s about to change as now we are getting extra episodes to make up for it.

Emmerdale and Coronation Street to air Sunday episodes

On Sunday March 29, Emmerdale will air at 7pm. Coronation Street will then follow for half an hour at 7.30pm. This will make up for the fact neither soap will air tomorrow night (Friday March 27) because England are playing Uruguay in a friendly at Wembley Stadium.

Emmerdale and Corrie will both be back in their normal 8pm slots on Monday March 30. Then on Tuesday March 31 no ITV soaps will be on at all due to England playing Japan at football starting at 7pm.

That week doesn’t get any more straightforward either!

On Wednesday April 1, Emmerdale and Coronation Street go back to their normal 8pm and 8.30pm slots respectively. But on Thursday April 2 they will air half an hour earlier – at 7.30pm and 8pm – to make room for two-hour episodes of Vera (repeats!) at 8.30pm.

Another Sunday Emmerdale added

And now it’s been revealed the following week won’t be any calmer. Another Sunday episode has been added for Easter Sunday, April 5. Both Coronation Street and Emmerdale will once again air at 7pm and 7.30pm respectively.

These ones are to make up for the missing Tuesday March 31 episode.

Viewers love soap power-hour, but hate time slot!

The updates come after the so-called soap power hour began in January. Emmerdale continues to air five nights a week with new episodes still dropping on ITVX at 7am every morning. However it has moved to a new time of 8pm, instead of the old 7.30pm slot.

Coronation Street has gone from airing Monday, Wednesday and Friday for an hour, to daily half-hour episodes at 8.30pm. Emmerdale’s Thursday double bill has also been cut to half an hour.

The 30-minute format is popular with viewers, with one saying: “So much better having the episodes on 30 mins a night in my opinion.” Another said: “Finally, I can watch my three favourite soaps in a row. Much prefer this schedule and the 30 min episodes.”

However despite the love, there was one major complaint – it’s on too late.

“I think Emmerdale should be on at 7pm then Corrie at 7.30pm so it won’t be too late,” commented one person.

Another agreed: “Can’t help feeling that the 8pm timeslot will mean losing viewers who watch it live. You’re up against bigger programs such as The Traitors in that time slot. 7pm was the best slot for Emmerdale I felt.”

“Why couldn’t this ‘power hour’ be from 7-8pm, returning both shows to their traditional, long held timeslots? Bad move, ITV,” stated a third.

And then in a poll run by Emmerdale Insider, fans declared they want a time change. A massive 88 per cent of viewers said soap power hour should be from 7pm to 8pm instead.
