A detective isn’t exactly an uncommon sight at Home Farm in Emmerdale! In fact, the police had already visited before Joe Tate’s dramatic dive out of the window. They arrived to speak to Joe about his attempted theft of Noah’s kidney.

And if the male detective who arrived seemed familiar, well that’s because it wasn’t his first visit to Home Farm. Not by a long way!

It looks like we might be seeing more of DS Desari now he’s got another window plunge to investigate after Joe’s accident.

Here’s everything we know about DS Vikesh Desari.

Who is DS Vikesh Desari?

DS Desari was the partner of DCI Grace Barraclough. Together they investigated Tom King’s murder.

Admittedly, they didn’t do a very good job! As Jimmy said in the episode, no one was ever charged with the crime.

Of course, we all know it was Carl King who pushed his dad out of the window, but the police never actually got to the bottom of the murder investigation.

In fact, DCI Barraclough found herself a little – ahem – sidetracked by Carl King. She suspected he was the killer so she started an affair with him (a slightly unconventional approach to police work, admittedly)

She was killed by a lorry just after Carl confessed to her. Bad luck, indeed!

Is he the detective investigating Joe Tate?

Anyway, Grace’s partner back then was DS Desari – the same detective investigating Joe Tate, who showed up at Home Farm while everyone was celebrating Lydia’s birthday.

And it seems his sleuthing skills still might be lacking because in the almost two decades since Tom King died, poor old DS Desari hasn’t been promoted!

Disappointing.

Who plays the detective investigating Joe Tate in Emmerdale?

DS Desari is played by Stephen Rahman-Hughes. As well as his nine months in Emmerdale after Tom King’s death, Stephen has been in many other TV shows. He appeared in Doctors, and in CBBC drama Almost Never.

Soap fans will also recognise him from EastEnders. Stephen played cheating dentist Adam Bateman, who broke Honey Mitchell’s heart.

And he also starred in Netflix hit 3 Body Problem as Anwar Suleiman.
