Emmerdale spoilers: ITVX early release confirms who John Sugden really is as Nate ‘returns’
John is not who he seems – we knew it!
*WARNING: The below article contains spoilers about John Sugden from tonight’s Emmerdale (Thursday April 10) that has not aired on ITV yet, but is available on streaming service ITVX*
Emmerdale has confirmed who John Sugden really is with a series of flashbacks, some featuring the late Nate Robinson. We now know exactly what happened to Nate – and other villagers since John has been in town.
We’ve long-since known with John it wasn’t just a simple case of him being polite-but-grumpy and typically male about not wanting to talk about his past. But now we have it confirmed that he has been hiding some pretty major secrets.

The mystery of John Sugden in Emmerdale spoilers
Since his arrival last summer, John has been a bit of a mystery. He first arrived after having a hook-up with Aaron and then stealing his stuff. He was then revealed as the half-brother of Victoria Sugden.
Vic was like a dog with a bone and wanted to get to know her brother. He was not keen on sticking around or opening up, but gradually began to relax. He shared details of his life – including that he had been in the army and been unable to save his best friend, Aidan Moore.
John settled into life, getting a job at the doctor’s surgery due to his army medic training and getting engaged to Aaron.
But something still felt off about him. We knew he was hiding more than he let anyone see – and now we’ve been proved right.

Out of control
This week it’s become increasingly clear John is spiralling out of control. After covering up Anthony’s murder for Aaron, Ruby and Caleb, John has been unable to sleep and it’s been affecting his work.
He misdiagnosed Kerry Wyatt, who it turned out had a life-threatening condition, not just the hangover he presumed. Liam went mad and put John on an official warning – which John did not react at all well to. John lashed out at Liam and was also seen smashing up a car in anger.
John later visited someone in a coma in a hospital bed last night. Although we don’t know who that is yet, it’s highly likely it’s presumed dead Aidan Moore. Or could it be the real John Sugden and the John we know is actually Aidan Moore? (Don’t worry, we’re confused too!) Well, we’re still to find that out, but we do know John is not all he seems.

John Sugden’s true identity revealed in Emmerdale spoilers from ITVX episode
Tonight’s Emmerdale has been released on ITVX and it has confirmed our suspicions about John. Recent predictions have included he is a serial killer or an undercover police officer. In fact he isn’t either.
Tonight we saw Jacob going into anaphylactic shock after drinking the wrong coffee. John leapt into action to save him. But as John was being hailed a hero, the audience were treated to flashbacks of John’s time in the village confirmed what’s really going on with him.
Multiple secrets were revealed about John in the episode – and the things he’s done. While we won’t give away exactly what is found out, so those watching tonight can enjoy the reveals live, we now know what happened to Nate after the flashbacks. And we also know what has happened to other villagers where John has been involved.
The reveal has been built up by Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw, who has teased: “Since enigmatic and inscrutable John Sugden arrived on our screens last summer, he’s managed to hide some pretty big secrets from his family and friends.
“As his clandestine acts are revealed, the audience has an opportunity to really get inside John’s mind and to finally understand exactly what this mysterious character is really about.”
We can’t to see what else unfolds – and the extreme and sinister lengths John will go to to keep his secrets.
