Film Club on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer is a brand new romantic comedy-drama created by and starring actress Aimee Lou Wood, who appears opposite TV favourite Suranne Jones.

BBC describes the upcoming series as a “piercingly funny and utterly heart-warming screenwriting debut from two of the UK’s most exciting voices”. Step forward actors Aimee Lou Wood, and Ralph Davis.

Film Club is a “witty and emotional show about love and family”. It also poses the question whether we should “follow our hearts or heads” when in love with a friend…

Here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming BBC Three comedy Film Club, including plot, cast, and start date…

What is the plot of the new comedy drama starring Aimee Lou Wood?

Film Club centres around Evie, a young girl who hasn’t left the house in six months after a “wobble”. Every week, on Friday nights at 7pm, Film Club is her escape. It’s Evie’s chance to “create a world of wonder, deck the garage out in whatever the movie calls for and spend a few uninterrupted hours with her best friend Noa”. Not only is Noa her bestie, truth be told he’s one of the few mates who still shows up.

However on Film Club night 198, things are different… Noa’s got big news. Evie is shocked when he announces he’s been offered his dream job across the other side of the country.

That means no more film club. Not only that, the pair may actually have to confront the fact that they care for each other more than just good friends should.

A BBC synopsis adds: “As if life weren’t challenging enough already, Evie is going to be navigating this amongst the eccentricity of her family home – living with her fiercely loving single mum Suz, sister Izzie, and handsome boyfriend/sometime man of the house Josh.”

How can I watch Film Club? When is the start date?

Film Club launches on Tuesday, October 07, 2025 with episodes 1 and 2 airing on BBC Three at 10pm, and all episodes available on iPlayer. Cast and crew filmed the series in Manchester earlier this year.

Co-creator and star Aimee Lou Wood said: “I’m thrilled that our beloved TV series Film Club, a project that Ralph and I have been writing for the past decade, starts shooting this week.

“We couldn’t be more excited, and grateful, to the incredible team we have assembled with the BBC. To bring this to life with Nabhaan and Suranne, two exceptional actors I have always admired, is a real honour.”

How many episodes is Film Club on BBC Three?

Film Club will be six episodes of 30 minutes each.

The series was co-created and written by Aimee Lou Wood and Ralph Davis, with Anna Jordan (One Day, Killing Eve) joining the writing team for episode four.

Who plays Evie?

English actress and writer Aimee Lou Wood, 31, portrays Evie in the upcoming romantic comedy-drama Film Club.

She also created the series, alongside fellow co-star Ralph Davis. Aimee debuted in the popular Netflix series Sex Education in 2019, reprising the role of Aimee Gibbs for five years to craft one of the most endearing characters in recent memory. Aimee is also famous for playing Gemma in Daddy Issues opposite David Morrissey.

However, this year she was catapulted to global fame after appearing in the hotly-anticipated White Lotus series 3. She played the incredibly sweet and often naive Chelsea. You’ll find no spoilers here, but her character was central to the show. You could say she was the heart of the series, too, amid much cynicism.

The role earned her a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Suffice to say, her star has risen and continues to rise.

Who else is in the cast of Film Club on BBC?

As well as Aimee Lou Wood, Nabhaan Rizwaan portrays Evie’s friend Noa in the cast of Film Club. The 28-year-old is known for his roles in Informer, Kaos, Juice, and Station Eleven. In 2020, he played the character Hari Dhar in a devastating storyline in Industry.

Suranne Jones plays Evie’s eccentric and unconventional mother in the cast. Of course, she made her name playing Karen McDonald in Corrie, before becoming a TV favourite in the likes of Vigil, Doctor Foster, Scott & Bailey, Save Me, and Gentleman Jack.

Ralph Davis, star of House of the Dragon, and Big Boys, will play the film club’s newest member Dominic. Ralph co-created the series, alongside Aimee.

Happy Valley star Adam Long plays Evie’s boyfriend Josh, while Three Girls’ Liv Hill portrays Evie’s sister, Izzie.
