OnlyFans: Inside the Machine gives a grim look at the rise in adult content model ‘managers’ – but who is Jordan Smith and what is OFM Empire?

The BBC documentary lifts the lid on the “corporate offshoot of the mansophere”, which is allegedly leaving female models exploited and – in some cases – fearing for their life.

During the programme, the BBC’s Amber Haque meets with victims of rogue ‘third-party’ OnlyFans managers.

She also speaks to lawyers and human rights experts, who warn there are signs of “modern day salvery” and “human trafficking” at play.

Only one OnlyFans manager approached by Amber agreed to speak on camera; Jordan Smith.

With a team of investigators, she also delved into the murky world of OFM Empire. But what exactly is it? And who is Jordan?

Here, we explain…

Who is Jordan Smith in OnlyFans: Inside the Machine?

Jordan Smith, from Rebel Agency, is featured early on in Amber’s documentary. She meets up with him in a very wealthy neighbourhood in Manchester during an OnlyFans ‘content shoot day’.

Jordan, 31, owns Rebel Agency and represents male and female models across the UK. It’s explained how his job is to “grow their profiles and maximise their earnings”.

In 2023, Jordan was reported to have made £12million for his OnlyFans models within just three days.

Jordan has a PR background, having previously worked with brands including Love Island and Red Bull. When he set up Rebel, he initially had ambitions of being the UK’s answer to Hugh Hefner.

He now also hosts the Rebel Devil Podcast. Jordan’s guests appear on the pod to discuss how they have made millions through adult content.

Unlike other managers mentioned in the documentary, there is no suggestion Jordan’s agency – which was one of the first to launch within the industry – practices any wrongdoing.

Jordan previously said his agency practises a “safe space and caring community for creators”. There are also no complaints from his models in the show.

What is OFM Empire?

In OnlyFans: Inside the Machine, Amber visits a team of colleagues investigating OFM Empire. It is described as an “exploitative” telegram community for more than 24,000 OnlyFans ‘managers’.

Worldwide group chats between the men expose conversations about “trading models”. ‘Managers’ also offer advice to each other on how to “convince” models to hand over their OnlyFans account details and bank details.

They also discuss how to “[bleep] their models up a little”, if they aren’t playing ball, and “scare the [bleeps]”.

One group chat has 300,000 messages. “I have a model that doesn’t want to pay,” someone asked.  A person replied: “Send some people to visit her.” Another agreed: “I’d show up at someone’s door over that lol.”

One response even said: “Threaten her, torment her.”

Another of the investigators warns Amber of OFM Empire: “The conversations being discussed are even worse than what can be found on the dark web.”

“It’s easy to look at these young boys and think they’re just ride ridiculous. It’s important we don’t underestimate them,” another grimly concluded.
