The Good Ship Murder: Channel 5 confirms new cast regular Peter Davison as Jack's dad, and reveals new captain
A new double act set sail!
The Good Ship Murder series 4 is currently in production, but it’s going to look a little different – as there’ll be some favourites missing in the cast, and some new faces joining, too.
The popular Channel 5 cosy crime drama will be back later this year minus James Barricale as Captain Richard Marlowe. The character was diagnosed with dementia in the previous series.
Also missing will be Geoffrey Breton’s Piers de Vreese. Viewers will know he was murdered in truly shocking scenes in the series 3 finale.
Earlier this year, we also revealed that Catherine Tyldesley’s First Officer Kate Woods will be back for her final episode. She is leaving as a result of her Coronation Street commitments.
However, no need to be glum, as Channel 5 has now confirmed that two news faces will be joining the cast of The Good Ship Murder series 4. There’ll also be an impressive guest cast every week. Read on to find out more…

Two new cast members join The Good Ship Murder series 4
Channel 5 has now announced that Fiona Allen and Peter Davison will be joining the cast of The Good Ship Murder series 4 as new regulars – and a brilliant guest cast will also be cruising with them.
Former Doctor Who and The Gold star Peter Davison will play Jack Grayling’s dad Eddie. He’s a “smooth-talking, streetwise silver fox”. After 35 years as a copper in Serious Crimes, Eddie is still razor sharp. So when the ship sails into choppy waters, he brings his old-school policing methods out of retirement to form a crack crime solving duo with his son.
Now this is a partnership we can get behind! Of course, fans of the show know that Shayne Ward leads the cast as former copper turned cabaret singer Jack Grayling.

Peter Davison, who joins as Eddie Grayling, told us: “It’s been a pleasure to join The Good Ship Murder – a brilliant, tight knit team who have welcomed me with open arms.”
He added: “Eddie Grayling is a delight to play, and Shayne and I have relished establishing a father and son dynamic in the Good Ship’s sleuthing team. Shayne has made fitting in, and filming our many scenes, so easy. Even if it’s obvious he can run a little faster, and sing a lot better than me.”
Fiona Allen will play the new captain, Serena ‘The Iceberg’ Teller
Meanwhile, the ship will be helmed by new captain Serena ‘The Iceberg’ Teller, played by Smack the Pony’s Fiona Allen. Described as a “trail blazer for women in maritime roles”, Serena is a formidable figure, oozing class and style. Although she strikes fear into her crew, the ice thaws a little occasionally and we catch a personal glimpse of a woman who has made huge sacrifices for her success.
Fiona Allen, who plays Captain Serena Teller, said: “What an honour to be at the helm of The Good Ship Murder. But, with great power comes great responsibility, and Captain Serena Teller is a character with many layers. She’s great fun to play and I’ve been excited to bring something new to a much-loved series.”
Shayne Ward, who leads the cast as Jack Grayling, said: “It’s truly a pleasure to welcome the great Peter Davison and Fiona Allen to the Good Ship family, along with this season’s incredible guest stars.
“The casting has been met with pure excitement, with a real buzz around the new arrivals. They are steering the ship into new waters.”

Who guest stars in the Channel 5 cosy crime?
Guest stars in The Good Ship Murder series 4 will include former EastEnders villain Richard Blackwood, as well as soap legend Anita Dobson. Of course, she played Angie Watts in the early days of the BBC soap.
Stars in Their Eyes host Matthew Kelly will also guest star. As will veteran actress Rula Lenska, Coronation Street’s Debra Stephenson, Silent Witness’ Neil Stuke, and This Life’s Ramon Tikaram.
Channel 5 5 Commissioning Editor Greg Barnett, added: “I’m absolutely thrilled that Peter and Fiona are joining the regular cast aboard The Good Ship Murder. Their brilliant performances will delight fans and definitely rock the boat! I’m further excited that we have secured such incredible guest-star appearances which will make this fourth series hugely dramatic and entertaining.”
The Good Ship Murder series 4 is currently in production in Malta and will be back on our screens later this year with a Christmas special.
