Trigger Point season 3 cast: Vicky McClure and other stars returning for explosive ITV series

Your favourite EXPO officers are back for another instalment with Jason Flemyng joining as season three's villain.

Trigger Point returns this Autumn with another tense instalment that sees Lana Washington put through her paces.

The nights may be getting darker and colder, but thankfully there’s plenty of good TV to keep us inside and entertained. Top of your list should be ITV’s hit drama Trigger Point, where Line of Duty star Vicky McClure is back as your favourite, stressed, EXPO officer attending to a new string of bomb threats.

Vicky isn’t the only star returning for the new series, with many of Lana’s loyal EXPO team also reporting for duty. We’re similarly excited to see two new faces on our screens, including a huge Hollywood star who takes centre stage as a chilling, merciless villain.

Trigger Point season 3 cast: Vicky McClure plays Lana Washington

Who is Lana Washington? Lana Washington heads up the EXPO unit (short for Explosives Officer) at the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Unit. She and her team are regularly sent out to respond to bomb threats across the capital, tasked with deactivating them before they blow up. It’s an incredibly testing and tense role for which Lana has to keep her cool. And she manages to some of the time. She’s not one to mince her words and has a history of telling her superiors exactly what she thinks of them.

While impressive at her job, Lana hasn’t always been successful at diffusing bombs in time and over the last two series has lost a handful of people including some loved ones like her brother Billy and colleague ‘Nuts’.

What is Vicky McClure famous for? Vicky McClure rose to acclaim (and landed a BAFTA award) for her role as Lol Jenkins in the Shane Meadows’ film This is England. The 42-year-old also starred in the subsequent TV spin-offs This is England ’86, ’88 and ’90. Vicky is perhaps also best known for appearing as DI Kate Fleming in BBC One’s Line of Duty, alongside Martin Compston and Adrian Dunbar.

In 2023, Vicky wed actor and director Jonny Owen, the same year she was awarded an MBE for services to drama and charity. Last year the Nottingham-born actor starred as the lead in the Paramount+ series Insomnia.

Nabil Elouahabi as Hassan ‘Hass’ Rahim

Who is Hass? Hass is a long-standing EXPO member and colleague of Lana’s who stepped up to lead the team when Lana took a leave of absence after her brother’s death. Hass is patient and committed to the job, unflinching when danger strikes. It’s these qualities that make him a trusted confidant of Lana, and the two often rely on each other to strategise when a bomb threat strikes.

Nabil Elouahabi’s career to date: Nabil is no stranger to a BBC or ITV drama having had roles in Time, The Tower, Vera, Our Girl, Breeders. The British-Moroccan actor, 50, played Joseph in season one of Blue Lights and appeared as Tariq Laroussi in EastEnders between 2003 and 2005. Only Fools and Horses fans will also remember him as Gary from the 2002 Christmas Special.

Nabil is currently on screens playing DC Buzz Aldrin in The Hack on ITV.

Eric Shango plays Danny

Who is Danny? Danny is essentially Lana’s ‘Number Two’, stepping into the role shortly after Nuts death in season one. He’s young and ambitious, eager to prove himself in the counterterrorism division and is loyal to Lana seeing her as both a professional mentor and friend.

Season three ended with Danny getting married, with Lana and some of his fellow EXPO colleagues turning up at the wedding to help celebrate the milestone.

What else has Eric Shango been in? Trigger Point marked Eric’s professional TV debut. He has since appeared in the Apple TV+ thriller Suspicion and the Channel 4 anthology series On the Edge. Eric is a born-and-raised Londoner who studied acting at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in Peckham, South London. He appeared in the 2020 short film Support Me playing the late UK rapper Cadet.

Kerry Godliman is Sonya Reeves

Who is Kerry Godliman? Dr Sonya Reeves heads up the Bomb Data Centre at New Scotland Yard’s counter-terrorism unit. As such, she regularly comes into contact with Lana in her line of work, and the two trust and respect each other’s experience. Sonya is the one to turn to for expert analysis on the chemicals and equipment used to create the explosives recovered by the EXPO squad.

When Lana’s parents were at risk of being blown up by a bomb planted by The Wave in season 2, she turned to Sonya to get them to safety, who duly obliged.

What is Kerry Godliman famous for? Kerry Godliman’s roots are in comedy, with decades of stand-up under her belt. She’s appeared on Live at the Apollo and Taskmaster, winning the seventh series in 2018. The West London native still performs comedy gigs but has turned her hand to a number of dramatic roles.

The 52 year-old came to widespread attention for her roles in Derek and After Live with Ricky Gervais. She’s also appeared in ITV drama After Live and Channel 4’s Adult Material. Since 2021, Kerry has played the lead in the cosy crime series Whitstable Pearl, airing on Acorn TV.

Natalie Simpson as DS Helen Morgan

Who is DS Helen Morgan? Helen Morgan was a new character introduced in season 2. The audience is first introduced to her as the late DS Thom Youngblood’s new romantic partner. But their relationship doesn’t last long due to Lana and Thom’s reconciliation and his then tragic death.

Helen was subsequently promoted, and despite their shared ex, was keen to be pally with Lana which initially rubbed her up the wrong way. Helen even tried to help Lana smooth things over with her new boss Commander John Francis (played by Julian Ovenden). But Lana bluntly reminded her: “You’re not my mate.” Nevertheless, the two ended season 3 on friendlier terms.

Natalie Simpson’s career to date: Nigerian-born Natalie began her career in theatre, appearing in National Theatre productions like Three Sisters and Jack Absolute Flies Again. In addition to Trigger Point, her TV credits include North Sea Connection and the popular Starz period drama Outlander.

Maanuv Thiara plays DCI Amar Batra

Who is DCI Amar Batra? DCI Amar Batra is the chief detective at the Met’s counter terrorism unit and is DS Helen Morgan’s boss. He’s been more of a supporting role in season 1 and 2, but he takes a central role in season 3, running the investigation into the new bomber. In the trailer for the next season, Lana orders DCI Amar to “stop pushing me out”. Looks like there’s tension ahead for these two as they try to work together to catch the culprit.

What else has Maanuv Thiara been in? This isn’t Maanuv’s only police role, having also played PS Tony Khatri in fellow ITV crime drama DI Ray and DC Macbride in the Olivia Colman series Landscapers. More recently, Maanuv, who grew up in the West Midlands, appeared in the Apple TV+ show Prime Target with Leo Woodall, where he portrayed Dr. Charan Nathoo.

Jason Flemyng guest stars as Steven Wyles

Who is Steven Wyles? Steven Wyles is a new character in Trigger Point season 3 and spoiler: he’s the bad guy. The season 3 trailer confirms that Steven is a serial killer and he’s seen putting the police and EXPO team through it. Lana states that he likes to suffocate his victims before blowing them up. “Everyone is going to find out the truth,” we head him say in voiceover, as a piece of paper with the words “Confess or Die” on it appear on screen.

It looks like Steven is going to torment Lana, with one scene in the trailer showing him chillingly glaring at her from behind a police cordon. Near the end of the trailer we also see Lana pushed up against a garage door by Steven with a knife to her neck. “Don’t move,” he shouts at her.

What is Jason Flemyng famous for? Jason Flemyng has had a very successful film career to date. The 59-year-old is well-known for working with Guy Ritchie and appearing in his films Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Jason also portrayed Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. He’s additionally appeared in the Hollywood franchises Kick-Ass, X-Men and The Transporter.

As for his TV credits, the Putney-born actor previously starred in ITV’s Primeval and the Gotham spin-off series Pennyworth.

Mark Rowley is Rich Manning

Who is Rich Manning? There’s a new EXPO officer joining the team in season 3 in the form of Rich Manning. Like Lana, he’s an ex-soldier transitioning into explosives thanks to his experience in the field. He’s married to wife Jenny and has two daughters. He’s a cheeky Scot who has become the joker of the team, pulling pranks and parading around to entertain his colleagues during their downtime. But he’s also serious and dedicated when it comes to the job. This sees him quite literally land in deep water on one occasion.

Mark Rowley’s career to date: Mark is perhaps best known for playing noble warrior Finan in the Netflix series The Last Kingdom. He reprised his role as Finan for the 2023 spin-off series The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die. More recently, the Scottish actor, 35, portrayed Corporal Jock McDiarmid in SAS: Rogue Heroes season 2.

He’s no stranger to a crime drama, having also appeared in season 2 of Karen Pirie. Mark has additionally been cast in The Dark, an upcoming ITV series about a serial killer starring Helen Baxendale.
