In Classic Emmerdale spoilers airing on ITV3 on Monday September 9, Sadie King faces a heartbreaking decision, while Paul Lambert experiences a life-changing moment in his budding relationship with Ivan. These episodes originally aired on December 30 2005 and January 1 2006.
Classic Emmerdale spoilers: Sadie bids a tearful farewell
Sadie struggles with her next move. She tries to reconcile with Matthew but fears she has lost him forever. Sadie takes solace in a drink at the Woolpack. Louise Appleton ribs her about being dumped, but Sadie breaks down.
Edna Birch kindly takes Sadie to her house. Sadie admits she never loved Jimmy and always loved Matthew. She tells Edna she doesn’t care about business or money, she just wants Matthew. Edna sees through Sadie’s game and asks her to leave.
With nowhere else to turn, Sadie sees Matthew again. He comforts her but explains he chose business over her. Sadie packs her things and says goodbye. Matthew suspects he has lost her forever. As the Kings celebrate the New Year, Sadie leaves the village in tears.

A New Year’s party to forget
Nicola Blackstock hosts a New Year’s Eve party. Paul Lambert feels uneasy about attending alone. But Nicola reminds him that Simon is away and Ashley can’t join, leaving her and Laurel single too.
Diane Sugden suggests Toni Daggert join in to cheer Paul up. But Toni causes trouble when she adds lethal dark rum to Laurel’s punch. Drunk Nicola refuses to watch Toni seduce Ivan Jones. She knocks Toni’s drink over Ivan and kicks Toni out. Nicola declares the party over and bursts into tears.
With Nicola and Laurel passed out, Paul and Ivan break the ice. Ivan reveals his ex-wife is hassling him over selling the house. Paul realises the ex-wife is Jordan Jones and feels relieved. Ivan kisses Paul to wish him a Happy New Year.
Classic Emmerdale spoilers: Ivan stands up for love
On New Year’s Day, Paul and Ivan collect Ivan’s belongings from his ex-wife Jordan’s place. Jordan laughs at them, assuming they are a couple.
A group of youths then spray homophobic taunts on Paul’s van. Paul stands up to them but panics when he sees he is outnumbered. Ivan rescues Paul and confirms they are boyfriend and boyfriend. Their bond strengthens after the confrontation.

Viv’s jealousy rears its head
Viv Windsor faces tension when Bob Hope announces his New Year’s resolution to reconnect with his children. Viv fears Bob’s children will mean more to him than her and Donna. Her jealousy adds strain to their marriage.
