The first Carl King in Emmerdale left quite a mark on the village. He was the third son of Tom King Snr and had brothers, Jimmy, Matthew and Max.
A womaniser and a killer, Carl was played for eight years by Tom lister. He eventually died in 2012 after getting that bit too confident about his invincibility. Serial killer Cameron Murray took him down a peg or five with a brick to the head and Carl was history.
But now his son, Tom is carrying on his father’s cruel legacy – if only Jimmy could see it.
Carl King arrives
Carl first came to the village as a spy at Tate Haulage, He immediately asked Louise Appleton on a date, but when his wife Colleen turned up, he was left in a pickle.
He soon set his sights on Chas Dingle, but then slept with Chloe Atkinson as well as Chas’s cousin Delilah. Eventually he and Chas reconciled, but then he cheated with Eve Jenson. Chas set him up on their wedding day – she jilted him at the altar after taking all the money he’d given her for the big day and squirreling it away for herself.
Carl’s two kills
Carl senior was responsible for two deaths in Emmerdale. But never actually punished for either of them. Though you could say his death then became the ultimate punishment.
Not long after he came to the village, he was doing some roof repairs with local postman Paul Marsden. Paul started teasing him about his fear of heights, but then Paul himself fell off the roof and died.
Carl turned to his brothers and together they moved the body so it looked like Paul had fallen off his own roof.
Next up Carl murdered his own father. Tom was hit over the head and pushed from his bedroom window on his wedding day to Rosemary Sinclair. Although Jimmy, Matthew and Carl were all under suspicion, it was later revealed Carl had a confrontation with his father about Chas and hit him when Tom called Chas nasty names. Carl then pushed Tom away and he fell out of the window.
Carl King and his Emmerdale demise
By 2012 just about everybody in the village had had enough of Carl King. He found out Chas was having an affair with Cameron and blackmailed her. But then he became obsessed with getting her back for himself.
When she tried to flee the village to escape his clutches, he cornered and tried to rape her. Chas managed to get away by hitting him over the head with a brick. She believed she had killed him and fled.
In fact, her lover, Cameron came across a very-much alive Carl and they had a fight. He picked up the same brick and smashed Carl’s head in, finishing the job.
