Putting the Modern Slavery, drug dealing and general awfulness to one side, it’s actually her appearance that has got people talking the most. And one item of her clothing in particular is crucial to the plot, actress Jaye Griffiths has now revealed. So what is the reason Celia always wears some sort of neck tie? The hat, the stick and the cravats make her an interesting farmer (Credit: ITV) Celia Daniels’ appearance sparks debate in Emmerdale Celia Daniels has been ruffling feathers in Emmerdale since her arrival earlier in the summer. She immediately got on the wrong side of Moira, before poor Paddy became the victim of an attack by her dog. Since then, Moira Dingle and Celia have formed a business partnership. Celia has even attempted to build bridges with the other villagers – including Paddy. But, behind the demeanour, Celia is running the County Lines drugs operation and holding people, including Bear Wolf captive to work as slaves. As well as being big boss of the operation she is also Ray Walter’s mum, having adopted him when he was eight years old. article continues below Read all the latest spoilers However, on top of the utter evilness of her, it’s Celia’s outfit choices that have sparked the most debate. Many viewers have pointed out that she doesn’t dress like a traditional farmer. “Has anyone ever seen a farmer dress like that?” asked one fan on Instagram. A second fan asked: “What’s with the Shepherds crook?” “I keep thinking of Little Bo Peep when I see Celia with that stick!” joked a third fan. While a fourth added: “Celia wears the same outfit, appropriate for all events: lies, deceit, and slapping young girls in a hospital car park.” A fifth fan asked: “Is Celia a farmer or not? What’s with that outfit?” Celia’s neck ties are for a reason (Credit: ITV/ Comp EI) Jaye Griffiths on Celia’s wardrobe Actress Jaye Griffiths, who plays Celia, has now revealed more about her character’s clothing choices. “Oh, I love my scarves. I love my hat and my stick,” she told us, adding, “I love my sticks more than anything! I think she went through a catalogue going, ‘Okay, what do farmers wear? Oh, great, I’ll buy that.’ You know, she doesn’t do farm work. I don’t think she’s been in a field in her life. She just swans about doing deals on her phone.” She also revealed why Celia wears something round her neck all the time – and the reason is pretty awful. “So she wears a cravat because someone has tried to cut her head off and she has a scar,” she admitted. “It’s very subtle, and it’s only halfway across, because obviously they didn’t succeed in cutting her throat, and that’s why she wears a cravat. And I asked our execs if they would not tell scripts, because I don’t want it ever mentioned. “There’s a lovely bit where Bob looks at my neck and then his eyes flick away, and that’s the only time. And that’s it. And it’s just a hint of former life, a life elsewhere, that a thing bad things that have happened to her.” Celia is leaving soon (Credit: ITV) An exit for Celia in Emmerdale Jaye has also revealed her time on Emmerdale is coming to an end and that she is ‘incredibly sad’ about it. “I knew it was finite,” she said. “Which I am very sad about, because I would like to stay forever.” She also gushed that being at Emmerdale is “heaven, one of the nicest places I’ve ever worked.” Read more: Who’s leaving Emmerdale?
