Luke Littler was runner-up to Michael van Gerwen last year and he got his tournament under way with a 6-4 victory over Simon Whitlock. Also at this stage 12 months ago, home favourite Raymond van Barneveld overturned a 5-3 deficit and survived six missed match darts from compatriot Cor Dekker to win 6-5.
