Episode 3 of 7
Bill Paterson narrates a look back at a selection of restorations related to the Second World War, including a doll believed to have been made by a woman who joined the Land Army at the age of 18. It's up to the Bear Ladies Julie Tatchell and Amanda Middleditch to get the toy ready for duty again. Brenton West meets Iain, whose father joined the SAS when it was formed, only to receive three bullets in his leg during a mission. The son now owns a keepsake - a metal bookend bearing the SAS motto - but it is broken and he would love to have it restored in his father's memory. The final item is a battered and beaten writing case given to a woman sent to work at Bletchley Park, the top-secret home of Britain's wartime codebreakers. Her daughter Wendy would like to see the case restored so she can hand it on her to own daughter as a legacy of her mother's contribution to the war
