While Haji Wright pulled one back for the USMNT in the 76th minute, a fine team goal finished off by Denzel Dumfries in the final 10 minutes sealed the victory for Oranje and condemned the United States to a third consecutive exit at this stage of a World Cup finals. Aside from a third-placed finish at the inaugural tournament in 1930 when only 13 teams were involved, as opposed to the 48 at this one, the co-hosts have only made it as far as the quarter-finals on one occasion, so will hope to exploit the expanded format to make a piece of history on home soil
