Being constantly watched by predators above and below water is all part of life for the Atlantic salmon. The young fish face a constant threat from herons that have conveniently built their heronry close to the water's edge. On a nearby stream the colourful kingfisher is constantly on the watch for smaller fry. Éamon de Buitléar follows the young salmon smolt on their journey to the sea and observe the larger fish battling their way to the spawning beds away upstream
