In September 1973, 16-year-old schoolgirls Pauline Floyd and Geraldine Hughes were found raped and murdered in the Welsh village of Llandarcy. The killer's identity would remain a mystery until 2002 when thanks to advances in technology Joseph Kappen was identified. The case is renowned as being one of the first uses of familial DNA analysis in criminal identification, though Kappen escaped justice as he was not identified until 12 years after his death
