Emma Timmins is feeling the strain of feeding and clothing her family, so Dorcas offers to help by taking in baby Annie - and the infant's arrival at the post office stirs up strong emotions. James is keen to continue the process of modernising Candleford and hires an assistant, a young man who Laura is quickly taken with. But she is uncomfortable in his presence and unable to let her feelings show
