Argentina v Algeria

Argentina v Algeria (Kick-off 2.00am). Laura Woods presents coverage of the Group J match at Kansas City Stadium in the USA, as the reigning champions play their first game in defence of their title. The South Americans beat France on penalties in the 2022 final after the game had ended 3-3 after extra-time in one of the most thrilling finals of all time, with France's Kylian Mbappe scoring only the second ever hat-trick in a World Cup final. That was Argentina's third success at this tournament after victories in 1978 and 1986. They will be looking to become just the third country to retain the trophy and the first to do it since Brazil won back-to-back titles in 1958 and 1962. Their opponents today are playing in their first World Cup since 2014, when they made it through to the last 16 before losing to eventual winners Germany 2-1 after extra-time. That was the African country's best performance at this tournament after failing to make it out of the group stage in their other two appearances at the finals. With analysis from Patrick Vieira, Karen Carney and Duncan Ferguson, and commentary by Seb Hutchinson and Andros Townsend
